Actually sounds like it will be fun anyway. It's good for you to get out there and show others what you can do. Hope someone get's you on quality video with that 600e!

I actually got out to fly three times this week:

Monday with the Knight 50 (seven flights)

Wednesday with the TREX 600N (three flights in that horrible wind)

Yesterday with the Knight 50 and Raptor 90 3D (five with the first machine, two with the second).

As I have been unable to get out much recently, this was a good week (for a change).

The Knight has about nine gallons through it now and still shows zero slop in the head. I have never had a machine that has worn (actually not worn) so well, over time.

Mike,

We have to find a way to go flying when this weird weather quits!

Richard I agree 100% we have to fly.

P.S. My nitro is on the HeliHobby.com webpage! It is a little down you have to scroll. Beautiful nitro inverted smoke pouring out with a nicely written ad!

MIke,

That is a great picture!

Looks like you are really enjoying the TREX 600N!

Richard,

I really am the only thing that sucks is where I fly I have to bring a large tarp. I take off and land there to keep the dirt out of my motor. Last time I was out it was so hot by the time I had the tarp spiked down I was already beat. Only did 3 tanks and wrapped it up.

That is a low inverted hover 3' off the deck which I didn't enjoy I only did that by request. I will calm down I am sure but right now low inverted hovering on a brand new bird makes me very nervous. I had to land right after that from nerves but it was the second of two 30 - 45 second inverted hovers while Jason V. tried to figure out HeliHobby's high tech 1080 camera.

MIke,

The tarp may be a pain, but you are wise using it to keep your motor, bearings, links, etc. clean. I am always surprised when I see people flying off of dirt and watching it blow up and the circulate back down through the machine (I used to do this when I was young, though-what a mess!).

Sometime you will have to try coming down to Whittier Narrows. There is a large clean lawn to fly from. Very nice people too.

I had the chance to do a bit of maintenance on lunch today: replaced the throttle linkage on the Knight 50 Pro, and went over the Knight 3D, the the Raptor 90 3D.

The Raptor 90 3D, I have been especially concerned about since Mitch's had the mechanical problem (I was inspecting servo arms for cracks). I found no problem with the arms, or links, but I did find out that the self tapping screw that holds the ball to the tail pitch control bellcrank was in the process of working its way loose (it had been cleaned and coated with thick ZAP during assembly, so this was surprising). It has been replaced with a longer screw (again, cleaned and ZAP'd).

Since I have been flying the large machines inverted, backwards (I am still not very good at it, but I do it every flight as I am quite determined), I have noticed that the ball links on the rudder pushrods seem to wear faster (I am assuming that this is due to the gyro working the tail harder).

I hope you are doing well these days!

Wow I am glad you caught that screw man that would have sucked. I never get a chance to do any work on my helis during work.

I am doing well not getting as much stick time lately. I bought my a Hobbico? field charge box today and this will make life much easier on me. I plan on going early and flying the nitro because I have the kids for the next week. Just going to work on helis hang with my kids and fly early for the next threee days!

Hope you all have great plans for memorial day.

I went and bought a 150 watt soldering gun for soldering 6s batteries. Couldn't get it nice and silver shine like my perfectionist self must have.

Jason V. if you need to solder one let me know. You too Martin.

Thanks Mike. Just got a CC80 for the Hurricane today! Mike I know you mentioned a problem with them, but I checked with some people that have them and as long as the BEC is inhibited, it should be good...plus I got a heck of a deal on it! Blades are also on the way...Rotortech 515s and K&Bs as well. Looks like she'll be back up by Tuesday, if the parts come in. I spooled her up in my room an she's definitely got a higher headspeed!:)

OOOHHH thats so dangerous!! One of the blade grips could have shot off and possibly go through a window and hit your neighbor in the head  I hope you realize I'm trying to be sarcastic.

I notice that he had not defined his attitude towards his neighbor yet, so this might not be a problem...

I still chuckle when thinking of the story about the guy who was fiending to fly as it had been raining for days. So he fired up his 600 in the garage just to hover at least and the power went out. It was just him and a flying lawnmower in the pitch black. As the story was told he hit thold and landed but can you imagine! What do you do hit thold and pray?

Haha, damn that's crazy! And yeah my neighbors suck! So I saw Indiana Jones last night and I wasn't very impressed. It was OK, but not the best Indy and the story was a bit un-Indy. I'd say Narnia's still my favorite this year, although Iron Man was great too. Sorry just had to let that out!

Went out and flew my 450 this morning with the cloud cover and although it was a bit harder to see I really enjoyed it. Each time I plugged in a new pack I had this warm fuzzy feeling.

You know now that I have the 600NSP in the closet I care not for crashing my 450. I spent most my time inverted and flew with confidence. Wonder what heli I have to buy in order to be able to do that with my NSP. :)

"Wonder what heli I have to buy in order to be able to do that with my NSP. "

Try an .90 sized next. The size will be intimidating, and the NSP will seam familiar and easy.

I think I want a Trex 500 next, really I want a Logo 500 but I dunno. I really like the stock red canopy on the 500 it sorta matches my 600NSP. I wonder if I wait will they have an all blue cnc with torque tube Trex 500.

I have a 600e here that I am working on for HeliHobby belt driven. Man when they said a torque tube heli was more efficient that wasn't an understatement. Part of this adventure included taking the boom block out and putting a belt on so I did the head first and it spun very free. Then I put the belt on and there is a noticeable amount of drag. Nothing like my NSP of course the NSP is doused in oil on a regular basis. :P

Ah Clem
05-25-2008, 07:29 PM
Mike,

The belts are often much stiffer in the beginning.

After they break in, there is not that much difference, drag-wise, between the torque tube and the belt.

Having been around during the transistion from flat belts (which had to be very tight not to slip and caused tremendous drag), to wire tail drives, through speedometer cables (Schluter raised tail for the Heliboy), then to the, at the time, "new" toothed belts, I will take a belt over the torque tube (gear driven) anytime.

We (many of us) went through many main gears (which used to drive the tail) with gear-driven tails in the past.

Contest quality pilots will notice the increase in improvment, in flight, of the gear-driven tail over the toothed belt, I never will.

Man I flew this new 600e, 6 packs this weekend in Bakersfield. The thing is friggin awesome! So much power and pop. Plus, I taught a guy how to do autos on his 90's :noteworthy
