Thought you guys might be interested in this. One of my friends had his mainshaft snap on his logo 600 in the air. Pics are in the runryder thread.

I've had two snap on crashing - they are obviously hardened and will break rather than bend - not heard of one breaking in flight but occuring just under the collar or rotor head will focus stress just like a cage on a flybar

Sorry about that - imagine how I felt !! broke my golden rule and flew the T600 after that - felt good so tried the same routine - same result :( - haven't even looked at the carnage yet. Anyway the L500 is fixed and test flew it tonight just 24 hrs after smackdown. Really impressed how easy it is to fix and small parts count - if it wasn't for the blades would have been a $50 repair !

John,
Your post on the crash thread looks totaled. I was curious about the frame. In person it is different i am sure but can you list the parts you had to replace? I am trying to look at how much breaks before i break my bank and buy a 5003d. Thanks.

Not at all !! Blades are the big ticket item :( - The L500 was flying the next day after about 3 hrs on it:
Flybar - flybar plastic ball links - x2 plastic pushrod links and pushrod - flybar spacers (make my own out of ali tube) - boom strut x1 - rotor head and pins - undercarriage x2 - mainshaft - there was a strut broken in the left frame and half the gyro tray but I restored structural integrity with a strut made out of a couple of ball links (mainly cos I couldnt be bothered to tear down the frames) - although the canopies seem very fragile they actually fare well in a prang and are easy to repair !
Anyway about US $70 plus blades - don't let the parts prices put you off - I spend more on the TREX600 as the TT usually gets broken and the bevel gears INVARIABLY do.

Thanks John. I never really thought of using a link to patch. Nice thinking. The total $$ is actually quit low. It seems like you would have to go in pretty hard to have to replace a frame side. I can assume since the nuts are driven in from one side that you cannot just replace one side of the frame? Thanks again.

There's no reason why you shouldn't replace just one side of the frame - the nyloc nuts are actually quite loose in the frame which is a bit of a PIA as they keep on falling out during assembly - I actually put a drop of CA on mine to keep them located but even so they come out without much effort - just the thought of un/screwing 14 bolts that put me off - also I find that the risk of crash is directly proportional to the number of new parts on the heli - I find putting on a new canopy -esp custom painted almost guarantees a smackdown ;)
