is it possible for a gyro to somehow "forget" what the nor/rev switch is set to and need to be switched? this is what happened. i set my H550 up per finless's vids front to back, and had my gyro set on normal since i built it, with several flights on it. i go outside today to get a quick flight in and right after liftoff the heli starts spinning wildly- acting just like it would act with the nor/rev switch set on the wrong setting. i power down, look at the gyro and it's still set at norm. just for the hell of it (i didn't expect this to fix it) i switched the gyro over to reverse. lifted off perfectly and the tail held steady. how is this possible?

Have you recently made a repair? Put the belt back on wrong? Put the tail back together leading edge or trailing edge reversed?

what with the time and money (and sometimes blood?!!!) we put into these things, yes, we're f#cking nuts.
the only repair i had done before this happened was to install trex 600 thrusted tail grips. but the blades are definitley on correctly and it spins upwards into the rotor wash.

one thing i just thought of, i could have screwed up the way i put the tail blade grips on and still have the blades oriented right. my grips are on so that the part that screws into the slider is trailing. come to think of it, i had to reverse my rudder channel as well. how are most heli's set up? is the grip on the other way, so that the part of the tail grip that connects to the slider is leading? i just checked my 450 and it's the same way as my 550. both tail blade grips so the slider connects on the trailing side.

Yes, that will reverse everything! On a Trex 600 they are leading edge.

DUH! i should have known. i've been wondering about something making my setup different from the rest. where my gyro is set to rev and rudder channel is reversed to everyone elses thats running the same setup. if the trex 600 had leading edge, then probly most other heli's have it the same way? please someone with a rex 450 and h550 chime in, as i suspect i've got them both wrong.

can you safely say that running my tail blade grips this was is detrimental to it's handling?

well i switched the tail grips back to the way they are supposed to go on both birds. the 550 is waiting for parts so i couldn't test it, but the mx450 tail holds rock steady now just like it did when it was new. i've been trying to figure out why the tail has seemed mushy. now i know! thanks for all the help guys.
