Do you place the battery packs "in" the ION or again on both sides of the heli?!

Hi
Fred the battereis go on the sides the reason it looks so open is because the battery mounting plates are off

Erf that sucks... You 've got plenty of space in the inside of your chassis...
I hate flying unprotected lipos :S but that's jst my opignon :)

Fred,

That is the beauty of the ion. With the packs captive (even if they would fit which they wont) the LiPo's get damaged when you crash. With them on the side plates, they separate from the heli and make it through a lot of crashes from what I have heard/seen.

Yeh , you know how those Gemans think , got to make a tank of it ,
looks good , one thing I would do , take the fan off , dont need it , move the bearing block up a tad , and it seams like the motor could be moved up about a 1" , but that would require a different pinion, it just seams too long without a bearing in the middle of some sort for support , in one of my crashes wih my fury last year wit the airplane version motor the weight of the motor during the 2 chicken dances it did before stripping out the main gear bent the shaft I had in there, Chris :?: do you think you can make a bearing block that can support the top of the motor that can tie into the front frame leg ?

Tony

To really work effectively, it would need to go front to rear and again, a frame change would be required. But yes, it could be done. I'll look into it, might be a nice option for those, like Bobby, that see no need for a two stage setup in thier future.

Actually, now that I look at it, I see an easy way to do it with stuff we already have, just need to cut a little carbon....

hey , yeh , thats what I been cooking up , with the frames for the hacker motor seams easier , 4 holes to mount a bearing block as wide as the frames right where the 2 holes are for the 2 stage
it might not cause a problem , but Im planning on dumb thumbing alot this year , so Im just looking out for what counts the most , my motor , and the heli , and also I have some lipos bumpers in mine too , :)

If you have a good disigned chasis, they wont be damaged :)
Look at the MP ;) hat 3 crashes with mine... Fell from 20/30m high, a goofed auto...
and some crashes with my home made chasis for my Logo10XL... never damaged one single lipo :)

here is a foto of the logo:

The lipo block is placed in that basket in front...its made of 2,5mm Carbon :P UNDESTRUCTIBLE!

If your Lipos get it they get it. Doesn't matter where they are.

I've flown a Logo 10 into the ground with the packs hanging way out front and they're still flying.

I had a pack in the frames of a Joker get trashed on their first flight in a crash that happend from a low hover and the frames weren't even damaged. The packs got a little twisted and they failed about 15 or 20 cycles later.

I have seen them fail in plane crashes where they never actually hit the ground themselves. They just get damaged from the high G forces of the crash. Rapid deceleration trauma

Some crashes you get lucky and others you don't.

Bobby , I just want a well balanced system all around , you know I use to work with recovery boilers for paper mills , and talking about beafed up and over doing it , is what thats all about , but with helis , you cant go but so far untill weight becomes a factor , why do you think I have 2 40-160 and 1 40-70 , Im either going to blow my batteries , which I dought that , or my motor , hard to do , and its just plain easier on the system , now I have a slight vib in my 32-3 that I bought from rcman , even though it vib at 25% , just think what it is doing at 100% , the vibs are so small but can fatige the bearing , the motor shaft , if a 3rd bearing was in there , that could absorb most of it and keep the motor running true. and also keep it in place when you dumbthumb it , Im not doughting Chris design one bit , but I cant help it about alittle over doing it :)

"UNDESTRUCTIBLE!"

Very famous last word! (or at least the properly spelled version of it) Never, ever to be used in reference to a helicopter.

LOL :glasses:

Hey Tony i had a link come off the elvator on my ION watched go in from about 30 feet up!! The 2 frame rails that support the cf frame were bent like a S and the actro and the shaft was still in perfect condition matter of fact i have about 15 flights on it since
I f you had a bearing support in there when that frame bent it would have trashed that actro shaft

hey , Bobby , yeh I can see where it could "Have" damage it , and by looking at your videos , you are kinda ruff on a heli  use alittle collective management so you dont pop those links off again  but you are looking good , Im about there too , but right now I cant go fly , 25 degrees right now , sucks , lipos dont like the cold one bit , well the gen 2, 3Ps dont like it , need to go 4P and head south , like FL. and thaw out.
