Anyone know why E-flite sells this gear without the bearing? Surely it can't be to save money by recycling bearings from bad gear. Not easy to remove a bearing without mangling it.

It is very easy to replace the main gear bearing if you have a vice. Just line the two gears in a vice and use a socket the same size as the bearing and push the bearing from the old gear to the new gear. Tey also sell the gear with the bearing included for 8.99 verses 3.99. if you have access to a vise you can save 5.00 toward some good servos which is probably what caused the crash in the first place.

I figure it's possible with a press - or even a vise as you have done.

I couldn't get the bearing to budge without distorting the case.

And FYI - heat is a bad idea - there is a plastic carrier inside that will melt.

the main shaft gets distorted all you have to do is sand it smooth and it will remove with ease. (I use a dremel tool)

I am in the process of repairing my Blade.

All was going well until I had to replace the main gear and I noticed the one way bearing.

Does the bearing have to be pressed out in any particular way ie direction?

Thanks

The seem to hold up better if you press on the rounded side and not the other (with the arrow). And I press from the same side when I insert them.

Not having a vice I use a half ton arbor press. Harbor Freight has them for less than $35. Kind of spendy for the one way bearings, but I can use it with other mechanical projects.

I will second the arbor press. It makes quick work out of something like this. I used a short length of 3/8 dia round stock and it pressed right out. It is a press fit so there is quite a bit of resistence. Just try to support the gear as close to diameter of the bearing as possible on the backside. This way it will not want to flex the gear as much.
