after reading some awesome reviews on this plane, i've decided it's most likely going to be the one. i guess the rtf version comes wth a zx-10 5 channel tx, but i've already got a 72mhz futaba 6exh tx for my helis. i'd rather not have yet another cheap throwaway tx lying around, so i'm wondering if i'd be better off getting the arf version and another rx for my current tx. in the end, the price of the rtf and the price of the arf + an rx/crystal is the same. the only problem with using my currect tx is, i have no idea how to program the tx for plank use, and the futaba manual sucks at best lol. i'd be very grateful if someone here can steer me in the right direction for setting up my tx for use with this plane. thanks in advance.

I would get the PnP (Plug n Play) version. If nothing else, the radio that comes with it is not the best, and they have had Rx problems.

But check the threads on RC Groups. Most come with two digital servos, and you need to remove one as it will overload the BEC. Lots of guys are runnin gedternal BECs to make sure.

Actually, my plan, is to buy spare parts and do my own. I have motors, ESC, servos and RXes.

i've got an extra inrunner (not the best motor, but brand new and collecting dust) and esc, servos lipos, rx ect. i probly could build one cheaper. any idea if this motor would fit?

also, do you know what settings i'd have to program my tx for? is there any mixes needed? that is one big reason i was leaning towards the rtf at first, as i'm clueless about radio setup.

You would need a gearbox for that motor.

No mixes needed. Set airplane. and set the subtrims to get teh arms right, set the end points for the problem throw on each surface.

well it can't get any easier then that! thanks pinecone. and after reading more on the t-28 i realize the motor i have will be too much. i'll stick with the stocker, and upgrade to something i wont' have to gear down when the stocker dies.

Hi,

I got the PNP version :D Really nice, but all servos are digi, so you'd rather get a SportBEC.

After that, buy 5 spares motor mount (they break easily) and 2 cowls (damaged in a crash).

You'll also need to epoxy the wing mount and inside the wing mount. The problem is that is you fly a bit hard, the wing will pop in the air (that what it did for me ...).

All the fuselage was damaged. Not expensive (29$), but I live internationnaly in france, so a pain to have spare parts.

I also changed the motor for a JustGoFly Vinnie's motor ... DAMN FAST and THRUST.

Let me know if I can help.

Cédric

hey thanks! it might be another month or so before i get it, as it's supposed to be a b-day present. so far my shopping list is: trojan PNP, futaba rx, sportbec (can you link me to the one you're suggesting?), extra motor mounts and cowls. i've already got a bunch of lipos that will fit it, and that was one of the biggest selling points for me, not having to buy yet another size pack. thanks for the replys.

Hi,

You will be MAD HAPPY, this plane is so great. This is the BEC you are looking for :

http://www.dimensionengineering.com/SportBEC.htm

You may also later buy a WattsupMeter to measure amps and Watts. Then you'll be able to change props and evaluate the Amps... to change the ESC or motor :D

You'll enjoy a lot this plane. I recommend you a long take off.

Anyway stock version + BEC is a GREAT GREAT plane.

Let me know,

Cédric.

oh and buy an extra engine mount before you leave the store that or once you got it home start building a custom one asap. they break a lot on that plane. and if you ad 2" of alerion to it, it becomes very acrobatic:shock:

ok good. the reason i was asking about the tx setup is that i wasn't sure if i needed any mixes for any channels, planes are totally new to me aside from the sim. and get the cheaper what? not sure what your getting at with that.
