OK I'm a girl. The exploded view in my manual doesn't help me much. On my blade 400 the tail boom is a little loose. The little box area on the frame where the boom goes in and you can see the belt.. you know... whats it called? I have no idea. Anyway there are 8 holes for tiny screws. But only 4 screws and only on one side. Are there supposed to be 8 screws???? Or only 4. There are just 4 empty holes on the other side.
Whats the best way to tighten it so the tail boom isn't loose? Or is it sopposed to be a little loose?

I don't know this heli other than just picking one up at the LHS to look at. I downloaded the manual online to have a look and that's a crappy exploded view...it's not broken down into sub-sections. But, that's to be expected I guess since it is RTF out of the box.

Anyway, on a typical heli you have 4 holes in EACH frame half. Technically that would be eight holes total as I would say you are describing. Yes? Those 8 halves line up to be 4 complete holes. Normally, you insert 4 bolts - all from the same side and then they screw into 4 nuts inserted from the opposite side. The diagram looks like it shows the 4 bolts entering on the right (if the nose were pointed at you).

Now, look and see on the opposite side what the shape of the holes are. Normally, the bolt side holes are ROUND, and the nut side holes are 6-SIDED. Make sure there are nuts to capture the bolts and tighten them evenly with a driver.

Hope that helps!

Jeanette

Thanks girl, that helps, theirs just 4 little screw - no nuts on the end and the screws don't come through. So I quess its just supposed to be that way, even if I think its wrong.

Thank you so much for your help!

There Are 4 Screws, The Heads Are On The Same Side As The Servo Arms.make Sure You Use The Right Size Screw Driver.if The Boom Is Loose, check Your Belt Tension.

If the screws aren't long enough to go all the way through to a nut, then they must be self tappers? I don't know this heli, but the next time I go to the hobby store, I'll pick one up and look (unless someone else here chimes in who has one).

Good luck!

Your tail shouldn't be loose and there are only 4 screws that, for mine, are on the 'driver' side of the heli. Be careful that you don't over-tighten because you could strip the plastic.

Ok this is a funny addendum to my tail issues. About a month ago my BF crashed my heli when I wasn't home. He's really good at fixing and tweaking the heli's and he had it repaired before I got home. (The wind caught it and it his a tree and then crashed to the ground - major damage)

So last night I was flying and when I picked the heli up I grabbed the tail and it was really warm at the base. Like I said before the tail is a little loose and it almost looked bent but only slightly.

So I ran to the Hobby Shop and got a new tail boom. When we took the old one off it was snapped clean in two on the inside! No wonder it was loose!

Wow. I guess the belt was the only thing holding it in place. I'm surprised the tail didn't wag.

That last day it was really vibrating and humming like a bee! But it didn't wag. It just barely looked like it was leaning just a little tiny bit.
