I plan on buying a whole new tail system for my hurricane in the next day or so. I am currently leaning towards the helidirect full cnc unit. Is this what you would use? Are there better options available?

i thought i'd heard here that ready would have the gaui cnc tail assy in stock soon? i looked last night but couldn't find it. so that leaves helidirect and cnchelicopter. oh, you could use the trex e600 cnc tail from ehirobo too.

I have been flying mine with it. I have 40 flights on the new tail already. No problem whatsoever.

I'm waiting for the Gaui CNC tail.

I got the HeliDirect/CNCHeli one off eBay for a deal I couldn't pass up, $49.00. Seems well made and works well but no thrust bearings in the blade grips but the hub shafts pass all the way through the bearings. Did a complete tear-down to make sure Loctite was used and didn't really need to. They did not miss a screw.

which brand did you get? cnchelicopter or helidirect? two different brands i believe.

Both CNCHeli and HeliDirect sell the same tail but mine came from CNCHeli who is XMSeller on eBay. The machining is very good, the bearings are extremely smooth and they claim it's made from 7075 aluminum so it should hold up well. You have to take their word for it on the material as there is no easy to verify it.

very true. i didn't realise they were from the same vendor. i'll most likely be getting that same tail assy soon. were i work, we have a full metal working shop, and we have a gun that will zap alum and give you the readout of what alloy it is. although i'll have to see first if zapping it hurts the metal at all. i'll get back to you on that one.

A gun that reads the aluminum, how cool is that. I would be interested in what you find out.

i know it burns a very small spot on the material, but i'll need to ask if shooting something will jepordize the structural integrity of it.

I've been using Quick UK Raptor 30/50 CNC tail blade holders on mine since day 1.

They are a straight swap in. I figure the grips are the most important bit from a safety perspective. A nice replacement slider (CNC) would be good... less flex although I cannot complain about the stock one.

The plastic tail 'box' itself seems fine... and is cheap to replace. I've blinged every other part of the heli (CF, full CNC head and all levers) and I just cannot see the point in doing the tail box right now (other than bling) - unless someone can tell me that they are weak.

Maybe I've been lucky but I've dumped my Hurri 3 times now (all down to stripped main gears) and not done any damage to the tail - not even a bent spindle. Trashed the tail fin every time but the tail runs true....

what gears are you running? ready has the cnc delrin i think.

The stripped gears (so far) were RevCo 0.6 mod units (with RevCo pinions to match). I've stripped 3 so far.

This is a 10S setup running a Z30. I don't run crazy headspeed but it has some serious grunt. The first one went after 30 or 40 flights.. I was abusing the heli - tight funnels and big loops - for a sustained period. The next couple were much quicker to strip.. and I think the reason for this is that the top bearing on the anti rotation shaft (which has the first gear on it) was knackered, allowed some play and state the rot.

I've moved to the Gaui 0.8 mod gears now - 50t gear, I may try the 60t next - to see how they hold up. It may be that the AR shaft is the weak link here... there have been issues with the AR gear/bearing previosly and now I wonder if the bearings are up to coping with higher power rigs.

Well i went ahead and ordered the full cnc tail from helidirect, i also went with a CF boom and CF tail blades. I believe the blades I got are radix 92mm. Other tan clearance issues any reason thse blades won't work? They have the same hole and root as the stock gaui.

I am hoping my tail will be a little more precise after these mods. My tail has a tiny bit of play in it and the gyro begins to hunt if I turn the gain up higher than 35%. I am running a 401/9254.
