After flying my Hurricane for a year on the original 850 KV silver motor, I thought I would up grade to something better. I installed a RCP 35/18/11 1100 KV 1000 watt motor with a 13 tooth pinion. The helicopter flew great but that motor sucked down an average of 30 amps! With the silver motor I only averaged 19 amps and I only average 33 amps on my Trex 600. I geared down the head to below 2000 RPM at 100% and was still pulling an average of 25 amps.
Next I installed a Z-20-980 with a 50 tooth forward gear and a 16 tooth pinion. This combination puts the head speed well on the north side of 2000 rpm and the Hurricane is flying great. The Z runs remarkably cool and so does the esc. I am averaging less than 20 amps while doing 5 minutes of moderate 3D on my 2100s. The Z is a keeper and the RCP is going into a plank!

That is the same experience I have since switching over to the Z20A 980Kv from the RCP H/18 1100Kv motor :) I can add 1 min of flight time to my 2200 packs and 2 mins to my 3200 packs. After putting in 25 flights this week on the Z20 motor, I have to say the Z20 is a keeper. The Z20 is so cool at the end of the flight...

The question now is "What are we going to do with the RCP H/18 motors?"

one thing to consider, your rcp 18 is 1000kv not 1100kv. look on the can. i was under the impression it was an 1100 but it's not. the 1500w version i believe is 1100kv.
