Hi,
I,m new to helifreak and helis. I have just completed a Raptor 50 except for some minor set-up issues.

Thing is I have never seen a heli fly. I would like to come to someones flying field to watch.

I live in southern West Virginia and am willing to travel.

I drove for 3 hours last weekend to a fly in that had advertized helis but only saw 1 Caliber 30 on training sticks. I waited for some time but nobody came forward to fly it.

I have someone to help me with my initial set-up and first flights but his heli is all crashed up (Is that a confidence booster or what?).

Anywho I would be interested in knowing where the nearest active heli field is.

Also, I recently joined the local RC fiying club when I thought I needed plank flying experienc first. Why is it that I,m treated like a red headed step child when I mention helis?

You should be able to locate somebody on one of the links above. Also there is plenty of videos in the video forum here on Helifreak of helis being flown.

Well, there's just something about a 9 pound eggbeater that scares the hell out of the old farts.. :)
Mostly it is ignorance of the mechanism, or intimidation of the complexity, take your pick.
I fly at times where the O-F's are getting erratic, and always go UPWIND of them for my own safety, hearing a plank on takeoff is usually not an issue, but one on deadstick approach that no-one has called can startle the hell out of you. (Besides, the smoke from a Heli drifting into their faces usually runs them off for awhile increasing my percieved safety level, as well as getting a little payback for the guy that almost gets my legs on an out-of-control takeoff! :) )
Fly for yourself, be mindful of the damage your machine can do to others, and keep your ears open for the planks in a mixed field!
Have Fun!

Wayne,
You and me think alike <G>. I use the same procedure when flying at a field where planes are being flown also.
