So do you think when JR comes out with a radio that is equilavent to the Futaba 14MZ it is going to cost less?
The 10 X costs is inline with the Futaba 9Z. So I would expect when/if JR comes out with a radio to compete with the Futaba 14MZ, it will be in the same price range also.

I was told it will be a while, from a good JR source. One of the airplane teampilots actually. They dont have anything in the works. Graupner/JR has a 22 channel on the market overseas that looks like a 9303 but with 22 channels. Honestly, and I am sure I will get jumped here, but what does the 14mz offer that is a practical advantage over the 9303? If I want to listen to music, I will listen to my Ipod or cd player, LOL. Yeah pictures are nice and so is color, but is it $2200 nice? How many of us average pilots, even 3d guys will use the features the 14mz has? I think it may be great for scale guys, maybe airplane pattern or IMAC, but not our average pilot, a 9303 will do just fine!

Well ... as a newly "reformed" JR pilot. I have to say that in reality for me the 9303 is all the radio I can use. I have had a Futaba 9CHP and a 9ZWCII ... both fine radios. The JR radio just "feels" better.
With that being said, I think the 14MZ has some technology that makes it the leader of the pack for now. It's more that a color screen and MP3's. It 2048 PCM (twice the resolution of anything else) as well as the new synth system and from what I understand, the best CCPM algorithm/software out there.
I'd like the 14MZ to get loads of good press so hat JR will step up and do them one better at a more reasonable price ... maybe a 14X ??
Hey JR, you listening !!!

Very true Johnny on the PCM resolution. Also I guess, it would be nice to be able to get somone elses setups online. It is deffinatly a leap in technology.
I guess time will only tell what JR has in the works........

As far as trading setups off the internet, doesnt the JR Datasafe thingy alow you to do a setup on your PC and transfer it to the radio ? If that's the case, JR can already do that !!
I know it works that way for the 10X ... I don't know about the 9303 :glasses2:

I've used the 9303 data transfer feature with a trainer cord and it works great! So if the setup info you want to transfer is on another 9303 that you can physically get your hands on, all you need is an $8 trainer cord. AFAIK, the DataSafe thingie does work with the 9303. So yes, you could download somebody elses setup via the Internets or Intraweb.
I don't know why I care, but it would be cool for JR to answer the 14mz. But seriously, there is little to no chance that I'd ever want to fork over $2000+ for a radio system. So it really doesn't make any difference to me whether they ever do it or not! I guess it's really just about bragging rights!

Lots of bells and whistles don’t do it for me. I’ve helped a lot of people program their radios.
I’ve learned my way around many different makes and models.
There are a lot of nice radios out there now. I guess it’s what ever you think you need.
I think Alan proves there is no substitute for skill.
I’ve programmed a few Stylus radios, not putting them down but in my opinion they are a little dated on the technology but it don’t seem to be holding him back.

Jr can try to copy futaba to catch up but Futaba will just raise the bar again. :)
Jr released ther new techinical triumph in the 9303 whitch is a nice radio so Futaba answered with the 14. :arggg:
Yes I like my 14 and if something happened to this one I would buy anoyher.
as was said above, If you like easy programing and adjustability to fine tune an aircraft or if ever want to try eCCPM, there is nothing close to the 14.
Yes the Jr does eCCPM ok, but not lke the 14. the 14 has built in functions to correct for a less than perfect mechanical design of the heli.
T me these are worthwhile features.
JR doesn't need to answer the 14MZ.
Like asking Ferrari to answer to a Yugo. No matter how many doors you put on a Yugo, it is never going to be a Ferrari.
Also FWIW, I will never own a radio that uses any Micro$oft OS. If they all come out with Microshaft OS'es, then I will have to find a new hobby.

So you are saying that the Yugo Jr has given up trying to catch the Ferrari Futaba :D
No, I am saying that the number of craft I have lost due to Futaba's Critical Failure technology is infinitely larger than those lost to JR, which has been zero.
I have had on brand new Futabas: bad switches, gimbals in the transmitter, bad pots, recievers that were out of tune, mis-labeled crystals, and a plethora of other smaller annoyances. This combined with the fact that the service department NEVER (ever!) warrantied any of it, really makes my JR that I have had for 6 years, with zero troubles, really shine.
I remember when RCD turned into HiTech, and my father and I were amazed that you could actually turn on a radio and have it work through the whole flight without a glitch, stutter or completely shutting down.
Sure, Futaba may have made quantum strides in the quality department, in recent years, but when I heard about the frequency modules that had bad solder joints in the 8 channel setups 5 or 6 years ago, it solidified my belief that the best radio in the world is "Anything but Futaba".
Lots of people get the impression that I ma over opinionated and grumpy when I talk about things like OS, Raptors, and Futaba, but I have my reasons, and the are all based on experiance, usually of more than just myself. I know a lot of guys like Futaba, but I don't like rebuilding models, I like flying them.

Ivan I have flown Futabe for 18 years and have never had a problem.
Not saying you did not.
I went JR for 6 months and lost a heli to my only radio failure. ( crystal fell out)
apparently I have tape JR crystals in...they should have sent some tape with my radio in my opinion.
JR in the states has little progress with their heli's or their radios.
They are over priced in both markets.
The 10x should include both aero and heli programming.
Pull the crystal out of your JR rx and see if it goes into Failsafe.
If it does then they have finally adressed that problem, if it does not I would not take off.....2 years ago it did not.
Christ...They had an Invert switch on my JR.......WHY? Because JR will always be 3 years behind.
I have noticed this... Futaba owners enjoy their radios and get the latest tech....JR owners are always having to say why JR is better.
An invert switch????? WTF? I have a car with fuel injection, I have a color TV, I have high speed internet, I have a PC to get online....So I will not have an Invert switch on the device that controls my $3000 flying chainsaw :D :D
I will fly what works for me...and the JR did Not!

Maybe the replacement for the 10x is going to be a top end 2.4 GHZ radio.
Boy, did I ruffle some feathers.
Sorry for having an opinion.

Talked to a couple of JR team pilots. Seems JR is going to introduce a new radio in the near future. From what I am told it will be a 16 channel. Modulation will be like we currently use, 72 mhz, 35mhz, 40mhz, and so on. No spread spectrum at this time.
Be interesting to see what JR brings to the table. Hope they are going to have more than one model type in an upper end radio. I think if they don't do that they will shoot there selfs in the foot.

Hey Jeff...me too. With the fiasco with the Vibe release date, JR cannot afford not to be able to "walk the walk" on this one. And, with both the 14MZ and the 12MZ on the streets, and now the word getting out about a futuristic JR "16 channel" radio in the works, JR better hit the bricks running. Guess we'll see what Toledo has to offer.

Im not too up to date, but did you guys know that Graupner has the MX-22 which is 11 channels and you can use your own JR module, crystal and receiver. It has the program functionality of the MC-24 but the comfort feel of a micro radio. It doesn't match up to the 14z but it is really amazing programability and functionality. Heres a link to the web page with the specs of the radio. oh, and it costs way much less than the 14z also. I used to fly with my MC-24 and it is an amazing radio. :D and I don't think it has microsoft software in it, or maybe I'll have to eat my words, jaja. heres the link: http://www.modellbau-usa.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=43
What you guys think of it?
Regards
