TP 4000mah rx lipo pack, spectrum dx7 DS281x3 and a 9254 for the tail, 401 gyro. I got myself a 6.0V 7.5 amp Duralite regulator, will I need a step down for this or can I just "plug and play"? Any help most appreciated! Thanks in advance.

You will need another stepdown for the gyro. The Align ones are cheap. (http://www.rchover.com/inc/sdetail/126028)

Personally myself I have had no problem running a tail servo on regulated 6 volts. I used regulated 6 volts for about 6 months with a 9251 and it was fine. I know several using the 9254/9253 on 6 volts and they have not had any problems. I am talking about 6 volts exactly from a regulator.

If you mean 821's they aren't rated for 50 size helis.
I would reccomend the use of a step down between the gyro and servo, no offense to David but he's a contest flyer and may well be able to tell the difference in the extra voltage, for the rest of us I would err on the side of equipment longevity personally.
EDIT: Nm I saw 30 and my brain said 50, those servos are ok.
