View Full Version : HDX 450 FSE, the right choice??
i just bought HDX 450 FSE w/motor from helidirect. i bought it off of ebay for 180 bucks, i thought it was a good deal, but ive read a few bad reviews, as well as lots of good one too. now i see that helidirect took them off there heli kits section. kinda got me thinkin twice now.

Good luck.... your gonna need it. Hopefully in the last month sonix has upped there quality control by about 900% and you wont have any problems like the rest of us that made the mistake. When the heli is in the air it flies great but that only lasts a couple of flights before EVERY flight your replacing parts you didnt even get the chance to break yourself. I guess the only good thing about horrible QC is that every once in a while someone gets a good package, so hopefully you got it.

My condolences.
i just got the heli in the mail a couple days ago, everything seems to be going alright, considering no assembly instructions(the best that helidirect could do was an exploaded diagram, which i already had). i had to modify some pieces(had to shave down the locking sleeve on the main shaft, and some other small details). it seems like a solid frame though, everything seems to be tight and turn smoothly. i guess some flight time will tell the tale. i agree though, i should have investigated a little more before buying.

This is the same as a Gohbee Phazor 450. If you go here http://www.gohbee.com/Merchant2/docs/instructions/doc09.pdf
You can download the manual.
its all together now, ive read over most of the instruction and i don't think ive missed anything, i guess will find out:) thanks alot

Hi Folks,
..It sounds like the general consensus is that the FSE is not a good choice? I'm switching out the frame on my second Trex and am trying to choose between an FSE or the Align V2 CF. I don't like the plastic bottom on the V2's but perhaps it's worth spending the extra money if the FSE is not of good quality? Any thoughts? Thanks!!

i dont know about anyone else, but ive got about 3 flights on it since i completed the build about a week ago, and i gota say, i like it:). this frame style is really growin on me.

I had mine for 1 year now and I fly at least 3X/week and the HDX FSE has proven it's worth. The high CG of this design makes my 450V2 seem sluggish. It rolls on axis and flips in it's place. I had hard landing in the past and the landing gear struts held well(only the aluminum skids bent), in fact I'm still using my original struts. The only thing I had a hard time in the past was fitting a suitable canopy. Now since getting a trex 450 V2 canopy...problem solved. The only thing I have changed so far is the motor(align 430 XL), rotor head(a friend made me a copy of the henseleit 3DMP MFS head....I still have the original head on an HB cool) and I lowered the rotor head by about 1.5 cm by cutting the original shaft. Now it's even more nimble in flight. The MFS head makes a difference. I posted a pic of it in the MFS thread. Here's the link http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=57143&page=2

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Damyxz, that sure don't look like no FSE! Nice Heli! Hey, I wonder whether or not you guys can answer some questions about the frame:
1) Are the screws allen style or just philips and do they disintegrate on contact?
2) Same question for the alumnum parts: do they hold the screws or do the threads strip easily?
3) Will the frame take the new Neu 1107H motors or will it stick out above the canopy too far?
4) Can I fit a battery between the plates on the front end or is it just enough room for electronics?
5) Any idea how it compares to the HDX STK Superframe? I have one and it's a fantastic frame with which I have had no issues.
Thanks again!!

The screws are all hex head. The aluminum parts seems strong enough(have not stripped any threads yet. Idonot know about the neu motor but I used a 450XL. (I donot think the neu is needed, the entire heli is really light compared to the trex). I put the battery between the plates (align 2100's) most people place the batts on top for higher CG though. I think it's more durable than the STK(I have one too), it also rolls better because of the higher CG.
