I've got a Century/Funkey fuselage on order for my Hurricane, and I'm wondering how I should set up the power system. Right now I've got a Z30 on 7S A123, although I'm considering switching motors (Z20 or Scorpion HK3032) and lipos. I'll be putting the long boom/belt back on and 550mm blades. What power systems do you guys run on your scale birds? What headspeed should I gear for? I'd like decent flight time. Would 7S2P A123 (14 cells) be too heavy?

I have a Jet Ramger fuselage on mine now Running stock motor 850Kv with 550mm carbon blades and astock gears with a 14t pinion going to change this to a 13t pinion and the tonix z20 980 kv motor (more effecint motor for cooler running)
I am trying to gear and run mine at a maximum head speed of 1850 which seems to be nice and smooth with the large blades.
As far a lifting ability with the A123 cells should be no problem as I load up the front now with 4 2200 Mah 25C air Thunder batteries.
I hope this helps

Nice question, Chinook. I'm also wanting to slap on a fuse on my 550. I have the Z20, but only have 2200 25c packs... but would only go scale if I could achieve 6:30minutes minimum. I have a 13T pinion right now, which is fine.. I just think my packs will need more juice... I think..
Oddi, do you have photos of yours, either flying or not? Would like to see it.

That's pretty nice!
I assume it's a 30 sized fuse?
Was it easy getting the EP550 into the fuse?
What packs and flight times?

Yes this is the 30 size fuse. It was fairly simple to install I built a wood tray with the blocks to elevate the mechanics which comes out in one piece once I remove the skid bolts. I just epoxied some bolts into the bottom of the wood tray which aslo acts as my battery tray in the nose for CG concerns. You have to use the long boom/belt as the fuse is long also with the trex 600 skids I am fairly high off the ground so I went with the 600 carbon tail blades which works great.
Only had a couple of flights before winter set in hard here with the Air Thunder 2200 Mah (2) packs I get near to 7 mins slow forward flight. I am able to double up on the packs and put in 4 of these spread over the battery tray and get easy 12 min - 13 mins no problem.
although this gets the motor quite warm that is why I am going to the Z20
