View Full Version : servos not working....kind of

I hope someone can help me. I have the strangest problem happening with my servos which I'm setting up in my trex 450. When I plug the ace rc c1016 servos in the spektrum receiver they start vibrating and shaking like crazy and barely react to stick input but the futaba s9650 tail servo works just fine in the receiver. I tried the spektrum receiver in my blade cp and those servos worked just fine. Then I tried the blade receiver with the ace rc servos and they worked great. The setup is the dx6 with ar 6000 rx.
I'm so confused.

Thanks

So your servos were crapped out on one receiver but worked fine for another? Have you crashed that receiver?

No the receiver is brand new

Check and make sure your servos connections are nice and tight and that you're plugging them in the correct orientation.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm at work right now so I'll check the connections this evening.

Ok so I made sure the servos were properly connected but they are still freaking out. I not quite sure what to do at this point.

What battery are you using for setup? Is it fully charge? What is the voltage reading?

As Zagi mentioned, make sure you're battery is charged. But since you're on spektrum, I'd like to think your receiver would die before the servos, but who knows. The only other thing I can think of is that they might not be compatible which would be really strange as I've never heard of such. Where do you live? Check the HF locater and see if there's someone local that can make sure it's setup properly.

What I was trying to do was center my servos for the cyclic. Problem is I don't have my lipo yet so I would just plug a 9.6 volt 650mah ni-mh straight into the receiver so as to center the servos.

I wouldn't do that. Chances are you've given the thing a little too much voltage. If you need to setup the helicopter, run to the hobby shop and pick up a 4.8 volt NiMH or NiCad. Let me know how a new battery works for you. FWIW, when setting up a little electric like that, you always want to use a smaller 4.8/6 volt battery plugged straight into the receiver instead of using a lipo and BEC.

A lipo/BEC combo will work, but you can't put straight 9.6 volts into the electronics. The Spektrum Rxes are spec'd to 9 volts max.

And the servos won't be happy either.

4 AA batteries will give you 6V. It's better than 9.6V. Ouch.

When I was rebuilding mine, the servos would move kind of erratic and then stop. My first indicator that it was getting low was that I had one servo that was a little slower than the other 2. I said okay, I need to work that out and kept setting up other things. Then the servos got somewhat jitter and stopped responding. However, they didn't jitter for very long until I turned the power off and back on. Then they would jitter some again until power dropped to far. I can't recall if the rx lights stayed on when the servos stopped working.

I'll take your word for it. Since I run a LiPo and reg, I've never run the battery dead so I don't know first hand what would actually happen. Thanks

OK, everything is in order now, the servos work fine running through the speed control except 1 servo which got damaged during one of the torque fests with the 9.6v so I've got some hs-65s coming.
My newest issue is battery taps. Why oh why are these things not universal.
Anyway thanks again to all that helped.
