Hi Guys,

I'm about 50% - 60% of the way through the build of a Tempest 3D. I plan on using a TJ Pro with an optical sensor and I have a question re: how to create the reflective strip needed for the sensor.

My current plan is to polish a strip on the fan back, tape it off, scuff the remainder of the fan back, then paint with LustreKote flat black. Any better/easier ideas.

Anybody know if the LustreKote will stand up to 30%, or will I have to clearcoat it (flat clearcoat SOUNDS like such a waste :) ).

Thanks,

You probably don't even need to polish the area of the fan you don't paint. I did not and the opti sensors worked fine.

The enamel black paint like lustercoat will last a good while as long as you don't move the fan with your finger and wipe it off, as I have done. :DOH

flat black lustrecoat will not wipe off. I've had it on my fan for 2 years and I clean the fan off every once in a while. You only need to paint a black stripe (if fan were a pie, paint out 1/8 of the pie). No need to paint the whole thing black. No need to polish the fan either. I would sand the area your are painting; Lustrecoat will peel if it doesn't stick.
