Your gonna love it.
Soon as you get the gearing and cyclic tuned to your needs it makes GREAT camera platform.

Another ION takes to the skys. Nice work, congrats on getting you rig in the air. What's your configuration, batts, etc?

pretty weak right now...I am only running 28 IB3800 cells at the moment. I am switching to 32 cells and a 60 tooth gear for it and we'll see what kind of flight times I get out of it. Right now I am only getting 5 minute flight times. I think it will go up to 7 or 8 minutes if I get the bigger packs and slower head speed. If I'm still not happy I'll be forced to invest in some lipos.

What's your total weight with camera gear?

just over 16 lbs.

I'm right at 17 lbs maybe a little less. Using a 60T lay-shaft gear, stock hacker, SAB 710's, 32 IB3800's. I get about 6 -7 minutes fully loaded.

I tried to change the shaft gear today with no luck.....they must weld that damn set screw in there. I'm just gonna fly it with my 32 cell pack and see what kind of flight time I get out of it. I might have to order a new shaft since I cant get the set screw out.

I recall it was tight also.
Shoot Chris and e-mail or call him. I am sure he will have some suggestions.

I was kind of curious if anyone was using the Ion for AP flying. Great to see it has been done. Did you have to run a longer boom to run the 710 blades? Also is there a way to have longer run times. I have a Xcell gasser set up for AP and have always thought about using the Ion for such work.

Quite a few use the Ion. I would say more use the Joker 2. Not sure why that is electric is cool but pricey! And you do not fly for 25 minutes with batteries. Not that you should need to for 1 AP job but you get my drift.

I put together a Gasser myself using "heavy lift" 830mm blades. No problems lifting things I just fear for the clutch now.

I have 2 setup for AP.
One with 800's and Actro 32-4 and the other with 710 V's and the Hacker 2 stage.
Both have the long booms to run 800's.

I am waiting on a new motor for my 2 stage setup. I think I am going with the NEU.

I get about 12 minutes out of my 8000mah packs. They are not the best so I expect with my Duralites I will get more time or the same on 7300mah.

I haul routinely a 10lb load with my 800's and I have done it with the 710's, but it is a stretch IMO.

The Ion works great you just have to set it up for AP out of the box. The stock setup if VERY 3D'ish and not well suited for AP IMO.

You also want the Stratus flybar carrier on it. WORLDS of difference in flight charateristics.
