I am in the process of setting up my 401 gyro (9254 servo) in a Pantera 50 and noticed while it was setting on work bench that the tail rotor servo was constantly moving a very small amount to the point of getting warm. I have the gyro gain set at "0" and the percentages in my Futaba 7 chanel radio gyro setting set at 50% in normal, idle up 1 and idle up 2. I have also tried changing the percentages up and down which did not make any difference. If anyone has any advise I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You

Gary

Did you follow Finless's video on setting up the 401?

Yes I down loaded it to my computer and have watched it 3 times.

are you moving the heli at all when the servo moves? idk what your experience level is, so please don't take offense if you already know this. if you move your heli when the electronics are armed, the gyro will move too thinking that the movements are from wind and it's trying to compensate to hold the heading.

There is no movement of the helicopter when I turn it on. I turn my radio on and plug the battery pack in receiver without any movement until the gyro light comes on steady. At that time I can hear the servo pulsing and can feel the slight movement of the tail rotor wire.

i guess it depends on just how much twitching we're talking about. i'm running a 401/9254 combo and i can always hear the servo whining a bit. i believe it's because a digi servo almost constantly tries to find center. but it's only getting warm, not hot? if that's the case i'd say your fine. probley just the servo doing it's job.

Check to see if you have any Rudder Subtrim and or Rudder trim in the radio. If not once you turn on the heli and the 401 light goes solid so you are in HH then just switch it to NON hold during the setups till you need it in HH mode again then flip the switch back to HH mode..

Thanks for all the replys.

I do not have any sub trim or trim in the radio. I guess I am just overly concerned mainly I hear the servo working. I will try it and see how it works when I start my hover.

The ESC makes the tail pulse during the first 30-45 sec. The ESC gives you the setup tones only at the beginning. After the ESC is done you should be fine (No tail movement).

Tail servo twitching around on the bench is normal especially if it's a digital servo.
