I took the plunge on my the setup for my T-Rex 600N yesterday. I had already bought the 600N Pro kit a few weeks ago when my LHS gave me a great deal on it and over the last couple of weeks I bought the Align frame stiffeners and gyro mount. Here's what I got yesterday:

Spektrum AR7000
3 x Futaba S9452 (cyclic)
Futaba S3151 (throttle)
JR G7703D
JR DS8900G
OS 50 Hyper
Align muffler
Multigov
Align wheels for Futaba servos
Metal fan
Align B6T 2-in-1 regulator
One-way voltage step-down for the tail servo
Fuel filter (Dubro two-way; my LHS didn't have any of the Align three-way filters in stock)
Fuel line
Mavrikk G4 600 CF blades
A few crash spares (booms, torque tube, torque tube gears, flybars, extra main blades)

Included in the purchase was all the support equipment that exceeds what I already have for my 450:

Field box
Hand crank pump
Fuel jug cap fueling adapter
More fuel tubing (for fueling)
Glow plug wrench
Larger pitch gauge
A gallon of Cool Power 30% Heli fuel

I'm hoping to have everything ready to fly in the next 8 days, but I'll have to see what snags I encounter.

Hey well done Alan, you have researched your new build well, make sure you let us know how you get on

I'm documenting the build in a blog, but I'm several days behind in posting entries. Maybe I'll get to it tonight. Here's the URL to my blog:

http://www.catservants.net/Site/T-Rex_600N_Pro_Build/T-Rex_600N_Pro_Build.html

I had completed the frame assembly and tail assembly earlier this week, so all I have to do is install all the stuff I got yesterday and then put the tail on the frame.

i just got my pro built last week w/ motor and muffler. i don't have the money to buy all the rest yet, but my list looks exactly like yours so i will following you on this. it is my first nitro also.

Congrats! All of my stuff should be in today (at least 95% of it).
I doubt I'll have it ready in 8 days. It's going to take me a while as I've never built anything like this. Just going to take my time and hopefully get it right.

Great setup Alan. Looks like it's going to be a nice bird :noteworthy

Spend a couple more dollars on the Align frame stiffeners though

Tom

EDIT: Sorry Alan I was just reading your blog (great by the way) and noticed you already had the frame stiffeners.

Good point, though. I've added them to my initial post as well as the gyro mount, which includes an extra frame brace across where the canopy supports go to add strength to that part of the frame.

Man I want to be your valentine next year I'll get a list together.

Cool list! Let us know how she flies when you get it all put together. Sounds like fun.

I discovered one missing piece of my setup this evening. The elevator servo mounts far enough back in the frame that I'll need an extension cable. Luckily, since that's a generic vehicle part, I only have to make a 10-mile trek to a LHS that specializes in cars as opposed to the 30-mile trip to my heli-friendly LHS.

For those of you who have built a 600N, would a 3" extension be enough? If I mount the receiver on top of the electronics box with the connectors facing toward the rear of the heli, it looks like 3" is all I'd need, but I'm not always the best judge of distance.

I used a 6" with a loop at the servo to stop it getting in the way of the control arm, and a nice loop at the front to keep it away from the frame.

ok, i think i am about to place an order for all my electronics etc....
what is this extension i am hearing about? my LHS sucks so i need to make sure i get everything. do i need a 2 or 3 way fuel filter? any other odds and ends i might need.
i am getting fuel line, aluminum fan, frame braces, starter wand, bubbleless clunk, gyro mount, horn set, blade balancer, pitch gauge. thanks

If you are capable of sodering in a new longer wire do so, using exensions add a extra failing
point, I never use them. Your nice futaba servos will have high quality plugs and most exensions
are poorly made and have cheap plugs that when mixed with fuel will put you in the ground

Hey I found this out, I used a ring box I had laying around, drilled a hole in the bottom put in a grommet to protect the wires and cut a section out of the front for the wires to go to the receiver all the wires are inside the box the only one you see is for the BEC. Works great Heres a quick picture, and it fits between the frame perfectly and tight. OK don't know how to add a picture here......

Congrats, that's quite a haul you made out the door there at the LHS:D

That's why I plan to use heat shrink tubing to secure the connection

To answer the original question, the wire coming from the elevator servo needs to be lengthened somehow because the servo is in the rear of the frame and the stock cable is not long enough to reach the RX at the front of the frame.

I would like to get the frame stiffeners as well. Where can I get them?
Thanks!

Looks like we are the four latest victims to fall for this deadly addiction. Shakes268, TheBum, Boosst, and myself. I have mostly the same equipment but I went with the Thunder Tiger Redline 53H and still looking for my Gyro. Some things Andy recommended to me were upgraded main shaft bearing holders (metal) and metal control arm for the elevator servo because they are deep in the frame. I also picked up some of those new 90 durometer feather shat o-rings with the sleeve. UPS is telling me that Wednesday is the build start date.

yes i am hoping for wednesday too. i have the heli built w/ motor installed, but i figure i might get to start it up sunday if everything goes well.

This is fun actually - we all bought about the same time.
I just purchased a brushless futaba tail servo and waiting on a spartan gyro. That was finally what I decided on as far as gyro/servo combos go.

I got started on mine today and I'm having a great time assembling it.
Question though!

I plan on using a multigov, have the sensor kit and waiting to receive the gov. What is the best way to attach magnets to the Align metal fan? Will JB Weld do the trick?

Hopefully, I will be ordering mine on Monday and I can join the four! :)
I know in Bob's video he uses epoxy to keep the magnets into the plastic fan. I am assuming that is the same for the metal.

TheBum

Yes, epoxy works fine in the metal fan.

I got the servos all installed and going the right direction today and installed the links to everything except the tail servo. I slapped the head on and attached the links just for grins to try the S9452 cyclic servos. All I can say is WOW! These servos are definitely no slouch in the speed department, moving about as fast as my thumbs would take them. They were money well spent.

Edit: I realized later that this was when running a homemade 4.8V receiver test pack. The speed will only get better with the 5.8V coming off the Align 2-in-1.

Hey guys, I maidened mine today. First Nitro ship for me. The last flight I actually flew it around FFF and stall turns. If you are used to a 450 or more nimble ship I would say go for the 440 mm flybar. I'm putting one on before the next flight. I did have 20% expo in but I doubt the cyclic would be fast enough. Although my headspeed was a little low since I was running rich for break-in. Next time I will start leaning her out and see what kinda power I got!

I was planing to use JB weld as well in the metal fan......Even though I don't have gyro picked yet. Hey where did you get your Spartan?
