View Full Version : Hooking the GY401 to the CP Pro

I tried yanking my 401 off my rex to see how much better it would hold, and it wouldn't work. I also put an AR6100 RX so I could use my DX7. The light just kept blinking and I decided to just keep using the stock gyro until I figured out how to hook up the 401 to a brushed tail. So how exactly do you do it?

I'm not positive on this, but you may need a speed controller for the tail motor. Check the "Good Setup sticky" and check the note on the replaced (brushed) tail motor.
I'm putting a 6100e, 370 and esc in one of my cps, and will go with the tail motor mod and tail motor esc. Sounds like we'll both have some questions on how to set the mixing for the 6100. Have you got any info on this?

I'm working on that.....so far, I haven't turned up much. I do have a good link for you:

This has been the best tool I've found so far, but it doesn't go much beyond the diagrams. I had everything set up the way it showed, but I'm not sure if you can still use the ESC/MIXER function on the 3n1 and just bypass the gyro. I stuck the 401 on my BCPP and the light just blinked. I put a cheapy gyro on there and it kinda worked, but it wouldn't hold for anything, so I think I need to look into dropping my GWS ICS100 in for the tail if you're correct. That or go all out and plug in my Phoenix 10 and Medusa 12mm B/L and say "Ah, fughedaboudit!"
I wanted to see if I could plug in my 430L motor in as well, but I don't think the KV is high enough to get it off the ground, unless I have a huge pinion on there and I kiss flight times goodbye. I'll let you know what I come up with though!

skunk, there are like 5 or 6 guys running around my field with 401s and brushless tails, and those things hold just as stead as my v2 w/401. that brushless is somethign else... really makes that thing fly GREAT

Yeah, I'd love to do the full conversion, but money hasn't been on my side for a while now. Just got all of my doctor bills paid off, and I'm hoping to get my CPP and DF52 going really soon. I ordered a metal head for it because a guy was selling it for dirt, but I doubt I'll be able to get it going without getting the gyro to work!
I messed with it for 20 minutes and nothing. I probably just have to change settings here and there, but it didn't want to work at all for the first few times I tried it. I'm out of spare blades and the main shaft is bent, so it'll be a while longer before I can get to it again.
I like watching Manual fly his. Pretty impressive coming from an RTF model!
