Hi guys,

Is it possible to transfer /clone the exact specifications of the T-REX450 SE V2 on to the Phoenix Sim? Or how can I get closer to the real flying characteristics of my bird?
Sorry if this question has been asked before but help and advice would be most appreciated.
Many thanks,

Mark.

Thanks Doctor  I think I didn't make myself clear. What I mean is that I want the simulator to actually simulate my heli's mechanical characteristics. The problem I have at the moment is that the 450 on the sim would be stable in hovering only in certain head speed. If I increase or decrease the head speed, I then have to input a lot of corrections through cyclic stick to get it balanced.
How do you make a copy of your bird on the sim? I don't mean the look of it or the canopy or pictures etc. What to change on the sim to get the mechanics as close as possible?
Thanks.

Well the ZIP file contains a rex that flies kinda similar to mine. But to adjust the flight characteristics you just have to fiddle with editing the parameters. Not sure how much help having a matching model on the sim helps anyways. The sim isnt accurate and it never will be. A sim is only useful to get your thumbs to move the right directions at the right time, you need to get the right feel by flying the real thing.

Thanks Dominic, good point: A sim is only useful to get your thumbs to move the right directions at the right time, you need to get the right feel by flying the real thing.
I'm trying the sim now after about 6 month of flying the real thing though.;)
Cheers,
Mark.

You should get online and fly with jackson and his TS server.

HFG might be wrong, but I agree with him. You can edit the parameters of your model to get closer to the way your 450 is set up. The parameters I tweak are: weight, cyclic rates, main rotor inertia. I can get my 450 sim model pretty close (except autos are STILL to easy in the sim). In the end, I think most everyone will tell you to make the sim harder to fly than the real thing. Better training.

Thanks guys, I find it much better flying in RATE mode when I practice figure 8 or with making smooth turns. After flying some scale models, I am now very interested in heavier helis as I am not into 3D etc. Is flying in rate mode on the sim a good thing or am I developing bad habit?
Thanks,
Mark.

Well using rate mode to fly patterns easier is really just neglecting learning proper rudder control.

Thanks for advice, is this what you guys and/or everyone else does? I was wondering what I can do with the RATE mode or why do we need it!

Planks and helis (models and full scale) require rudder input to fly coordinated turns. Slipping and skidding turns actually feel sickening inside an aircraft but there's only the visual indications in our models. It makes it a lot harder to notice. It may look like the aerodynamic forces are keeping your tail behind you flying in rate mode, but I'm pretty sure you'll be slipping in all your turns if you're not putting in some rudder to initiate and holding a touch through the turn.

Near as I can see we get two nice benefits from HH: we don't have to stay on the rudder during pitch (torque) changes; the heli doesn't weathervane into the wind. But in either mode, you'll have to use the rudder to make coordinated turns.

With HH as an option, I DON'T know why we have rate mode in our gyros anymore.:thinking
