I got a caliber 5 with a os 50 hyper engine. I dont think it is runnig so well, and hope someone can
help me with good advice to make it better. First: When I start the engine it runs with a very hight RPM the first 6 seconds, and suddenly it drops to normal RPM. When I then remove the glowplug it also run ok.
The idle adjustment screw is about 12 o clock and the needle is tuned alomst 1 turn from fully closed.
Usually I fly in cold weather, about 5 degrees C.
Anyone with the same engine who wants to share setup?

Hi.
I have two helis, a T-rex 600 and a Cal 5.
Both with OS 50 Hyper. With two different setups.
Needlevalve more or less the same: T-Rex 1 turn + 16 click out. Cal5 1 turn 13 click out.
Mix control on T-rex adjusted fully clocwise, then it was a bit lean, adjusted ccw til it idles
fine. And throttle respons is very good, no sputtering.
Mix control on Cal5 is at factory setting, running just fine.
Flying in same contitions as you, between 10 and 0 celsius.
Pictures of mix control on both.

I have an OS 50 H on my rappy and I also had a few issues getting the perfect tun on, but now she purrrrrs like a kitten. I found that for the low speed setting the 1 o-clock position gave way to a good idle and a fairly smooth transition. that is under stood that 12 o-clock is in line with the barrel of the carb. as far as the main jet one turn out + 6 clicks seems to be working great with my pitch - throttle curve. I'm using Rocket Science Racing Fuels which has 30% nitro and 22% oil. As far as weather conditions, windy, hot and humid. At the end of my last flight the temp was 186 deg. taken from the glow plug. Keep in mind it took about a minute for me get the rotor blades stopped and the canopy off. I had read that you should be able to hold your finger on the back plate of the motor for 3 to 5 sec. to guage the motor temp. With my index finger I was able to hold it on the back plate for 5 sec. After cool down I inspected the glow plug, the coil had no signes of distortion and no yellow or brown tint arround the rim. After one gallon all was still shiney including the piston (I looked in with a small flashlight). Wright, wrong or indifferent I'm happy. Hope I've said sompthing that helps, good luck...

thanx people. I have almost the same tuning settings now, but the factory settings was set to 10 o clock on the idle adjustment. sq. Think I will give it a go with 12 oclock as my fellow country man does and see how it fly.

Rebil, I too have an os 50 in a sceadu 50 with a jk pipe running 20% cool power. The low speed needle at 12 o'clock is the factory setting and is ok. As for the high speed needle, I would start at 1 3/4 turns open and work your way in until you are happy with the way it runs, with a nice smoke of course. One turn open on the high speed needle is too lean especially in colder temps. I know it sounds funny but it needs to be richer in colder temps and leaner in warmer temps. Tom
