Hi all
My tail servo on my new HBK2 does not center at all, and I am out to get a new one.
What micro servo would you recommend for the tail?
Thanks
Peter

I've had good luck with Futaba's 3154 on my HBK2-same little fella some use on their 450's. Hitec's got a new digital micro on the way (can't remember the number) but it won't be out for a few months.

Hi Warpspeed
Thanks for your reply.
With a digital servo, you need a digital gyro, right?

As far as I know, no. There are threads here on the 'Freak where people have burned out their 3154's running in digital mode, but using standard they're holding up fine. Obviously you sacrifice a bit of speed running in normal but the difference is not so great an 'average' flyer is going to notice. (Not sure a pro would notice either:dontknow)
I can't really say how it will work with the stock gyro as I yanked mine immediately and replaced it with the Logictech 2100, but it should be light years better than the stock servo. I abuse the snot out of mine and it's held up well over the past year and countless crashes.

Hi Warpspeed.
Thank you for your insight.

Great!

I am not looking for "optimum performance" - just something that can hold my tail.
(Or the tail of the HBK2 - that is) ;)

My LHS has a HH "stock upgrade".
I have no clue what gyro it is, but it is less than $ 50,- and it is true HH.
I would like to go for the 401, but to upgrade with a gyro that cost half the price of the heli itself, is a little overkill IMO. :)

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. It was hard for me just to go brushless-but, in for a penny, in for a pound! I HAVE managed to resist all the aluminum bling so far though.
Not sure how long that will last.....I'm like a crow that way, attracted to everything shiny.....:arggg:

Hmmm... I don't know if you can really look at it that way. Yes, a good gyro/servo combo may cost more than the heli kit, but so what? The electronics are seperate items from the airframe. They can easily be transferred to another heli later, etc...
I used to run "cheap" gyros, and will admit that I had pretty good luck with them most of the time once I got the hang of setup. However, once I got my frist GY401 + digi servo, I realized what all the fuss is about :)
It's not only performance, but reliability, and ease of setup that you have to consider. The 401 is probably the easiest, most user friendly gyro to setup out there. That's worth some $ IMO...
I wouldn't trade one 401 with a JR3400G servo for 10 telebee or similar gyros, and all the setup headaches that come with them ;)
Now, with all that said, I wouldn't recommend anybody run out and start buying higher end equipment unless they are pretty sure they plan to stick with the hobby seriously for the forseeable future. If you're just flirting with it for now to see if it's something you want to stick with, then you can get your feet wet without breaking the bank. Something like an align/telebee gyro or similar with a good fast analog servo costs less than $100, and will work "good enough" for a beginner...

Hitec HS 81 works really well with the esky or walkera G007 HH gyro.
