I just flew a heli on the reflex xtr sim and I must have crashed more then a dozen times. Is it that hard to fly the real thing? I couldn't get it to hover for nothing. This was on a friends sim and not mine with a JR 9303 TX.

It is very simular, but I promise.... keep practicing on the sim, it gets a lot easier. Beginners usually "over-control" everything and this effects the stability in the hover. Be gentle and practice...... again, I promise, it gets a lot easier !

It also didn't help that it kept drifting to the right and back

Well if you REALLY want to simulate a crash. Stick a $20 in a jar every time you hit the ground in the sim.

That is where the practice comes in, don't let it drift where it wants to, fly it.... don't let it fly you ! It is a lot of fun and the enjoyment will come more with time.

Well I'm hopping to get a Sim of my own here very soon and I will be on it for at least 4 if not 6 hours a day.

Night Flyer,

I was ALL over the place on the first week. You just have to keep at it and it gets easier. I was banging the sticks like a playstation game and that wont work, its all small inputs and trying to keep the heli in one place. After a few evenings it just sort of happens and then you'll start trying different attitudes with the heli and thats just like starting over but you'll get the hang of that quicker.
In G2 theres an instructor you can watch and put a "radio" on the screen to watch his inputs and that was helpful for me. Another thing I did was turned the wind OFF at first, then when I got to hovering turned it back on.
Just keep crashing those virtual helis and it'll pay off big time later.

30 minutes of quality time on the sim is plenty, twice a day. Over that, you loose attention span.

Good luck ! Let us know if we can help. That is what Helifreak is all about !

I'm trying so hard to be pashiont . I'm trying to sell my bow so I can get a JR 8103 from a friend of mine and it's driving me nuts. I don't know what else to do. I'm so feed up that I'm just about ready to just get out of R/C and never get back into it. It's on ebay right now under Martin Razor X. That's the second time it's been on there. :bomb: :arggg:

You have to be patient. If you are not patient and get a heli then I guarantee you will not spend long flying helis. Maybe this Bow selling thing is a test for you. I had my sim 3 months before I got my heli. It made all the difference in the world. Concentrate on getting the sim first then while you are practicing...start working on your needs for a real heli.

Well the bow finally sold and I got me a JR 6102 for my first radio. This thing is a lot more advanced than my Futaba Sky Sport 6 that I had a few years ago. :glasses:

Out of curiosity, where can I get downloads for Realflight G3? I looked on the realflight website and they have pretty much nothing. I just bought it for my system but the Raptor 50 is not an option to fly in the program and I would really love to practice flying the one I purchased. I am also new at this. I can keep the thing in a hover even though it bounces around some and land it ok but anything beyond that ends with that crunch sound.

May be here: http://www.raptortechnique.com/rfd.htm

If you want to feel like you flying for real. Throw a $50 bill in a jar everytime you hear the "crunch sound" :smokin:

I figure that every time I save myself from crashing the real one because I practiced on the sim that it pays for itself again.

You got that right!

Hi There

I'm also new to this hobby.... I've got a JR controller and am learning on a relex sim. I can seem to master controls using my thumbs or my index finger and thumb combo. Is there a technique to use...

Thanks

Jascat.

What ever you feel better with. I use only thumbs, but I learned to fly planks in the 70's, and that is the way I learned. Can't teach an old dog new tricks.

I often wish I used the thumb and finger method, seems more precise.... but on the other hand, I shake enough when I fly with just my thumbs on the sticks, not sure I need more fingers on the sticks !
