Jeremy,
That is the one I am talking about. What I am talking about it was not previously a map with stick pin locations. The old format, you clicked on a state or country. All the pilots that were signed up on the locator for that location would pop up in a list. All you had to do was scroll down the list to find pilots. Personally I don't like the map and having to zoom in on an area to see the names on the stick pins.
The original pilot locator use to be kept by CeeJay Higdon. He lives in Louisanna north of Layfayette. He got tired of maintaining it and turned it over to Russ who has pilotlocator.net now. At the time CJ turned over the list, there were over 6000 pilots from all over the world listed. There was a problem with transferring the data base and Russ had to start the list from scratch again.
David
Hey Dave,
You should email me with any wants or needs with the Locator.
The big change was to provide support for People outside the USA and Canada.
I know it can be a bit to surf but To try and get so much information on the site
I had to make some compromises.
Let me know what you would like to see.. I'm sure I can incorporate it into the site..

The price of gas has certainly gone up. However we want to make it worthwhile for you to come to our FF again this year. If IRCHA is too far away for you to have to travel and you have to pick and choose what events you should attend, By all means consider coming to the event here in Mt.Pleasant. Not just because it is our 22nd year at doing this, but we will try to offer something for everyone. We continue to listen from year to year and adjust to what seems to be the popular thing with everyone. We are going to have something for every aspect of r/c heli community.
Check our posting on this subject for a good motel rate too, at our sponsoring Motel. This will help some with costs. Camping is allow at the field, so bring your RV, but no hook-ups avaliable at the field itself.
Outside of the competition events and IRCHA,you probably WILL NOT see a better line of pro pilots then at this event. We have commitments from Curtis, Jason Krause, Matt Botos, Bobby Watts, Ron Lund, Nathan Spencer, Alan Szabo, Bert Kammmerer, Carl and Tyler Bonta, Vic Campbell and even Daniel Jetschin all the way from German is also scheduled to attend . Now how many other events can say that!!!!
But the pro pilots alone are not the only reason to come, we have a Huge beautiful Field and some great contest. It is an AMA sanction event and we will have more details along with registeration information upcoming.
It still over 4 months away but it is definitely going to be one of the premier events of the YEAR!

I'm reserving a day or two of vacation from work so that I can participate all three days. Hopefully, I'll start doing some mild aerobatics by then. I just hope you guys can dial up weather that's as good as during last year's Saturday main event, although 5 or 10 degrees cooler would be nice (and not at all likely).

Less then 4 months to SRC and things are coming together more and more each day. We have a number of sponsors that are now on board and will be listing some of them soon. We are hoping to have something nice for most if not all that attend for pilot give aways.
I don't think there will be a better list of pro pilots at any other non competition event ourside of IRCHA. And we have some great seminars plan. One of them being Nathan Spencer and Ron Lund doing an auto seminar as well as a number of other seminars. More announcements coming soon.

I *definitely* want to attend that. It sounds like it's going to outdo last year, which is a pretty good feat. I'm reserving a day off from work to partake in the full experience.

I am looking forward to people that might be interested in entering some of our great contest. Provided that the weather (can't control that) is good and the price of gas (cannot control that either) doesn't go up too much more. I don't believe there will be another event besides IRCHA that will be better then this one.
The interesting thing is that there is not much interest on Helifreak as I find on the other fourms, not sure why, but there are several of you that have been posting and intend to come but for anyone esle reading this post, I promise you there is NO other event out there besides IRCHA that will be better then this one.
We will have a non sponsor demo contest, a target drop contest, a novice contest, an auto rotation contest. Before the auto rotation contest, there will be an auto rotation class by one of the best in the busniess Nathan Spencer. Seminars by Jason Krause, Matt Botos, Gray Travis and Curtis Youngblood will have his new helicopter the Rave and will be doing some demos with it.
Speaking of Demos, the Exihibition Demos done Saturday after lunch will be hot with some of the top pilots in the world including Daniel Jetshin. I repeat there will NOT be a better event besides maybe IRCHA then the Southern Rotary Classic.

That sounds great! I'm glad you guys are always looking for ways to improve the event and adding educational opportunities is definitely a Good Thing! I'll be a 'tween flyer this year, i.e. between novice and demo/autorotation level, but since I plan to participate all three days, I can just enjoy watching and learning on Saturday. I might even try the target drop.
To all the rest of the folks, Terry is not over-exaggerating this event. There were over 100 registered pilots last year and it was a fantastic experience.

You also need to make sure somebody is at the novice event to take pictures or video this year. I was kind of bummed when I found out there weren't any photos of last year's. It's the only event I'm ever likely to win. I did get a nice plaque out of it though; I still need to get it engraved.
is there a flyer or site that lists all the events and diff skill level competitions?

I think they're still finalizing the events. I won the Novice event last year, which consisted of hovering for as close to 30 seconds as possible and a pad hop where you make two circuits of the pads and try to do both in the same amount of time. The number of seconds you miss the mark in each event is the number of points you get, so the lower the score the better.
They also had an autorotation competition for 450 class machines and another for larger machines. There was a bomb drop competition, unsponsored demo (pretty much just freestyle flying), and scale competition.
Of course, the sponsored pilots all did their own demos.
It sounds like they're going to add clinics this year, which I'm really looking forward to.

Hi Alan & CB
Guys, I will be putting out a schedule of events after IRCHA. We will have the novice contest, Target Drop, non sponsored demo contest, Scale contest and auto contest. And yes we will have about 5 seminars. The autoration seminar should really be good.
Matt Botos, Carl Bonta, Jason Krause, Nathan Spencer and possibly, possibly Curits Youngblood are all in line to do seminars :)

Are all the seminars going to take place on Saturday or will they be spread out over the 3-day weekend?

Hi Alan
They will probably all be on a Saturday since that is generally the most attended day. Friday will be kind of a relaxing day with a lot of emphasis on just flying. However there might be some demos from some of the Pros Friday evening for just the 450, 500 class helicopters.
We will start Saturday with the Auto seminar by Nathan Spencer in the morning, follow in some order with seminars from Matt Botos, Jason Krause and Gray Travis and possibly Carl Bonta.

I guess I have been sleep walking for some time now, but I did not realize that your picture was not including in all the pictures that were posted last year. Tell you what I will do, if you show up this year, then why don't we take your picture as the defending winner with the new winner or some kind of way we should be able to get you in our pictures :)

Sounds good. I could even bring the plaque with me.:)
I was kind of disappointed that the Novice event didn't get much attention at all last year. Things just seemed really chaotic. However, the main reason my picture didn't get taken was that I left before the awards. I missed the pilot's briefing that morning and it was my first fun fly, so I had no idea when I participated in the event or immediately afterward that there even was an official award.

Yes Alan, by all means bring your plaque and we will slip you in the picture. By the way, check out the article in the latest addition of the AMA magazine. There is an article by Mark Fadley in the helicopter section about this year's upcoming Southern Rotary Classic :)

I finally got to read it and I agree that it was a great article. Timely too. However, I would debate the fact that Mark Fadley wrote it. It looks like you wrote the vast majority of it, Terry.

Hi Alan
Yes, I guess I did write almost all the article, however, I have to give credit to Mark for getting the article published. He did a great job in that respect.
I have been hanging on RR most of the day, guess I better start to hanging out here on runryder a little more too.

By the way, I wanted to tell everyone that we want to encourage some night flying at the SRC. So please bring your night blades and count on staying Saturday night for the night flying portion of the event.
Also there will be a special give away at the Saturday night fly. We are planning on giving away a hot new helicopter at the night fly and to win you do not have to buy any kind of raffle ticket. However you do have to be at the event just prior to the start of the night flying.
If you are not at the event when the night flying starts and your name is called you will not win, another name will be called until someone there at the event wins.
So that should give guys something to think about, Bring your night Blades and do some night flying!

I need to get busy and get mine set up. I've had the blades and glow strings since last fall.
