Our event in Mt. Pleasant Texas, The Southern Rotary Classic three day event will be September 19-21, 2008.
We had a speculator event last year and things are off and running for another HUGE event this year as well. Therefore I am posting the dates for the event so if anyone needs to plan time for their vacation they can do so.
Most of the well known pilots that were here last year have indicated they will return. The following list of well known pilots have said they are planning to attend.
Bobby Watts
Bert Kammerer
Jason Krause
Daniel Jetschin
Alan Szabo Sr
Alan Szabo Jr.
Danny Szabo
Matt Botos
Todd Bennett
Carl Bonta
Tyler Bonta
Gary Travis
Darrell Bell
Jamie Robertson
Anthony Jaeger
Vic Campbell
Zack Hayes
Ron Lund
Nathan Spencer
We expect commitments from many more pilots. We will also have the same great contest as last year and possibly some new ones as well. There will be night flying Friday and Demos Saturday night as well as a dinner is plan. And we would like to invite all the scale pilots to attend because we will some special things plannned for the scale guys too. Vendors and Manufactures will be welcome as well.
This year we have added seminars and have 3 planned already with a possibility of more.
Our club website is www.mtpleasantrc.com/node/37 and we will listing our sponsors as well as possibly offering some cool videos of last years event.
Outside of your local event and IRCHA this will probably be the one of the best if not the best event you can go this year, so save your money, it is going to abe an awesome event!
Stay tune everyone for further details.

Sounds great! I'm thinking about partaking in the entire 3 days this year. I only went on Saturday last year since it was my first event and I had no idea what to expect, little knowing that I'd end up winning an event (the Novice competition). It was a fantastic event!
BTW, loveraptors, it was great talking with you at the Aero Hobbies fun fly. You were a tad too busy at the Southern Rotary Classic last year (headless chickens come to mind).

Hi Alan
Yes, I remember talking to you at Andys' event, that was a good one too. Looking forward to seeing you at SRC #22 again this year. Last year's event was indeed a good one and it should be even bigger and better this year Alan. We are hoping to have some of the representatives of IRCHA with us this year and we have a turbine seminar plan as well as an autoration seminar and possibly a 3D seminar as well.
And as for as 3D pilots, we have most if not all of the same ones back again this year and in addition, Todd Bennett, Matt Bottos, Jason Krause and Mr. Alan Szabo Sr will hopefully be coming with both of his boys this year, so it is going to be HUGE. We have room for 10 to 12 flight stations if necessary possibly even more. If you remember what our field looks like, it stretches about a mile from one end to other and we have that nice beautiful lake right behind us. So with all the room we have there will be plenty of opportunites for the scale and novice guys to fly to. I will make sure of that because too.
We also hope to have a lot of nice pilot prizes and probably some kind of nice give way that evening before our Saturday night dinner.
Some fantastic demos as well as scale contest, autoration contest and others. It's still several months from now, but I will be posting more and more in the coming days.
One more thing, since you won the novice contest do you think you are confident enough to enter the non-sponsored 3D contest? :)

Probably not this year. I haven't even taken my heli out of Normal flight mode yet.

It was pretty awesome last year. How many pilots ended up registering, Terry? I know it was over 100 because I was #101 and there were people in line behind me at the registration table.
loveraptors

There was 112 official pilots although there was a number of people that didn't register and fly and quite a few people that had intended to come but for various reasons were not able to.
The excitment and buzz about the event is already much higher then it was last year at this time, so I anticipate maybe half as many more people coming as was here last year.
But don't let that intimidate anyone because we have a Huge field with plenty of space to fly and even a smaller field that can be use for hovering, maybe some autos and possibly some scale flying if they would like on the opposite side.
Will post more as the event draws nearer :)

This event is definitely going to be Rock! I don't know how many more ways I can say it. It is an AMA sponsored event and we have some of the best 3D pilots coming to this event every year. With the exception of IRCHA ,you probably want find as many top pilots anywhere as we have committed to coming to this event this year.
We also expect to have well over a hundred pilots at this event. However we want to make the new pilots and regular guys feel good too. Therefore we have a number of seminars plan for out event. We also welcome all the scale guys to bring there models as well.
We will have hot dogs, burgers, fries, chili and drinks for sale during the day Friday and Saturday and we plan some type of dinner Saturday night before the night flying.
There will be a non sponsored 3D contest and the last two winners went on to be sponsored shortly afterwards. Last year after the 3D non-sponsored event, the pros put on some awesome demos, similar to what happens at IRCHA, everyone that saw it raved about it.
We are planning on getting a new sound system to play music during demos this year.
The night flying was awesome as well, with Bert Kammerer, Bobby Watts and Andy Rummer and others putting on a super show. So hopefully anyone that is coming can start making plans now, to help here is some hotel information.
"Executive Inn" will be the host motel again this year for the SRC #22, to be held Sept. 19-20-21 of 2008, in Mount Pleasant, Texas.
You may call direct motel line for reservations 903-572-6611.
You must mention the Southern Rotary Classic or Radio control Helicopter event in some fashion when getting your reservation.
A block of rooms are blocked for this event until 9-12-2008. After that date, there is no guarantee of a reservation spot !
Rates will be 49.99 regardless of single or double beds etc. .
With taxes, that will come to around 56.00 per day. Pretty good rate for several to a room. You may put as many partners to a room as you like, ... bring a cot if you want to.
For about 20.00 more you can upgrade to a suite type room/ kitchenette type place with even more room. But.. do not wait too long !
There are several other motels in the area and we will post them on an upcoming webpage when possible, but no discounts.

Look forward to seeing everyone that attended last year back again for this year. We are trying to arrange a spectacular opening demo event (with something that actually might not have anything to do with RC helicopters in it) but still working on the details and want know for sure if we can pull it off. Nevertheless we will have as large a group of pilots as anyone outside of Ircha for the contest and events. So make plans now for September 19 through 21, it is going to be a great event. More details coming soon :)

I only flew on Saturday last year, having just accomplished stable hovering, but I plan to fly all three days this year. Maybe I can actually meet you in person this year.

I am copying this over to the SRC thread where it would probably be more viewing.
I guess I am still a little surprise. I suppose you are talking about the calendar at the back of the AMA mag that list all the events that are coming up every month, however, this event has been going on for 22 years now and every year that I can remember it has been in the event calendar in Model Aviation and I thought it was on the IRCHA website from last year as well but not positive on that count.
Nevertheless, we have had tons of big name pilots at our event at one time or another. We have had Jason Krause, Todd Bennett, Nathan Spencer, Ron Lund, Vic Campbell, Alan Szabo Jr., Scott Gray, Eric Larson, Curtis Youngblood, Bobby Watts, Bert Cambpell, Anthony Jaeger, Andy Rummer, Boby Simms, Malorie Zastrone, Leon Luke, Tyler Bonta, Jamie Robertson and no doubt some I am leaving out and forgot but we have had a lot of them and many of them returning year after year.
It may not be on the IRCHA website this year just yet and I am glad you reminded me of that so I will try to put it on that website. However, maybe you are not that familiar with or don't check out runryder very much - I try to check out all the forums if possible-, but it has been advertise a WHOLE LOT on that forum with hundreds of pictures and over 55 videos from last year and over 30,000 hits on the comments page (more hits then any other event ever, I know I check each page to see for myself) and nearly 28,000 hits on the video and pictures page and several thousand coments and videos on another page devoted to the incident when the rc helicopter hit Mark Ryder's camera while he was filming. So it is definitely being cover on that forum and a lot of coverage.
But I would like to promote it more on this site and it doesn't seem to be happening as much as I would like. Speaking of the AMA mag there might be a nice promotion of the event in the AMA magazine coming up so maybe that will also help promote the event. But thanks for the encouragment and suggestions Alan.

These forums tend to be California-centric (take a look at the Local Club Discussions forum if you don't believe me), so I'm not really surprised the word's not getting around much. I'm trying to be an ambassador whenever I find the opportunity.

I think LithiumStatic was referring to HeliFreak members. I have no doubt that there are lots of heli pilots in Texas, but I think they all tend to hang out at that otheRR site.

The new format Russ did looks nice. I only wish there was still a list of the pilots and didn't have to zoom in on an area to see who they are. IS there still a list somewhere on the website. I did not see it.

I believe there is another list somewhere on the web but I am not sure where it is. I remember seeing one sometime ago that featured pilots from all over the world and was easy to look at.

Jeremy,
That is the one I am talking about. What I am talking about it was not previously a map with stick pin locations. The old format, you clicked on a state or country. All the pilots that were signed up on the locator for that location would pop up in a list. All you had to do was scroll down the list to find pilots. Personally I don't like the map and having to zoom in on an area to see the names on the stick pins.
The original pilot locator use to be kept by CeeJay Higdon. He lives in Louisanna north of Layfayette. He got tired of maintaining it and turned it over to Russ who has pilotlocator.net now. At the time CJ turned over the list, there were over 6000 pilots from all over the world listed. There was a problem with transferring the data base and Russ had to start the list from scratch again.
