View Full Version : EagleTree eLogger on Hurricane 550
I've got my newly acquired Eagle Tree e-Logger V3 mounted on my Hurricane 550, just logging amps and pack voltage for now but I bought an optical RPM sensor I'd like to use also to log head speed.
Anyone else have an EagleTree on your Gaui? How did you mount the optical sensor?
thanks

I painted half of the main gear white....and velcrowed the sensor to the side of the fuse, it seemed to work OK But I also have the Brushless sensor so I'm sticking with that.
I mounted it on the left side above the gear looking down.
Any particular paint?
Why did you decide to go with the other sensor?
thanks!

i got the v3 second hand, so i don't even have an instruction booklet, if one exists. i also have not tried it yet as the weather here sucks right now. most likely i'll just use it for logging amps and volts, but i might get a temp sensor or two. where did you guys mount yours? any pics? and (stupid newb question) to hook it up, you just run it inline between the esc and lipo, right?

Half way down the page.. http://www.eagletreesystems.com/MicroPower/micro.htm V3 instruction manual PDF
Yes in line between the ESC and LiPos
I don't really 'mount' my V2.. I have a velcro tie around it to hold the extra wires nice and tidy (mine has a memory expander and brushless RPM module attached so lots of spaghetti). After I mount my packs I just stick the velcro wrap around the eLogger onto one of the velcro straps holding the pack onto the top battery mount. It then sits under the canopy on top of the pack....

I got both when I purchasedthe unit since it was so cheap. I like the brushless becasue it's so easy...just hook it up between two of the bullet connectors....I also seemed to get bigger fluctuations with the optical sensor. Eagle says they will have software out soon so you can use both at the same time.....then I may remount it....
The BEST part of the Eagle is the monitor...it sits on the side of the heli and when I land I can see how many mah have been used....many times I will fly another minute or so till I get to the 80%mark....it's like an on board GAS GAUGE. I love it. I also have a temp probe that sits under the lipos just to see the temp.

I also have the Power Panel Display for my Eagle Tree but i am afraid of breaking it in a crash!!
I dont think it will be very tough, I cant bring myself to fly with it yet!!
would like to have the optical and Brushless sensor at the same time, will look forward to doing that.
Cheers

Ben...How much is the panel...$39 ? A good crash wouldcost more than that anyway...
i guess once you have used it a bunch of times...and know what the mah are...timing it is just as good anyway....
I just like to be able to look at it and get as much out of the lipos..as possible.

that is all true but its such a PITA to get things sent to me its just not worth the hassle
Bob and I have stocked up on Hurry spares so we are ok on that front but for other specialist items i am extra careful.
but yes thats the exact reason i bought the power panel is to act as a fuel gauge just cant bring myself to use it yet!!

Well i plucked up the courage to fly with the Power Panel on last night and Didnt crash!!
Your right, its great knowing how many mah you have used.
Need to find a better mount for it but i thik it will stay on now!
thanks for the encouragment Mike!

No problem....you have probably been shorting yourself some flight time by landing early.
I don't think I'll ever fly without it.
OK, I've got the optical sensor mounted and working following mjdee14's advice, with the sensor mounted on the left side of the fuse pointing down and the main gear painted half white and half black.
So far all I've done is a two minute hover in the driveway, but it seems to work! Hover on Z20 15T pinion and stock gears, with 500 mm CF blades and 2200 C25 packs, almost exactly 2000 rpm right at 20 Amps.
Cool!
The e-Logger is mounted next to the ESC on a little extension board replacing the standard Gaui ESC mount. Double stick tape mounts the optical sensor above the main gear, and velcro on the back of the rudder servo mounts the LCD Power Panel. Here's some pictures I took this morning.

Hi!
I've done something similar. I took another mounting plate and used it on the other side. Works perfectly...

Really like your idea I think I will do something similar on my Heli
nice and neat wiring and short connections from ESC to eLogger
Good idea

The obvious place for the Power panel is on the back of the Tail servo (plastic frame) but thats where i have my BEC mounted.
The next obvious place is on the back of the elevator servo but thats where my Remote reciever for my AR6200 is mounted!
I will need to have a move around and a rethink. I want to shorten most of my cables anyway so I think I will rip it all out and start again!!
Cheers all

DPA..
I like your also...i have mine piggybacked on the BEC/regulator....it's mounted low on the left side ..
I don't like he right side because I favor landing from left to right and the first thing I see is the left of the heli....your spot would be perfect...it's a little higer than mine....
Like Wazzer...I'll have to move some things around..

Mike, Ben, I had to do the same thing, ended up mounting the Align BEC on the right side where I can get to the on/off switch, and remounting the satellite receiver to the right side also. That made room for the LCD display mounted on the back of the tail servo.

I ordered an EagleTree Logger with the brushless sensor as well. Does anyone here know the number of poles for the Gaui 1500W/1100kv motor just by chance? It appears that I am unable to find any information on this on the net. Even not on the Gaui homepage.
Thanks a lot

look at the above site.....they call them "bearings" but they are the poles...so 8 poles.
I used 8 on my ET and worked fine...had to use two wires...wouldn't work on one.
