How can I tell if I have Nicad or Nimh cells?

I have a bunch of battery packs at work that I am looking to use to power my Heli starter.

Only trouble is the cells don't say what they are on them, and I want to charge them with my TP1010 Charger and TP210 balancer.

Anyway to work it out? Does it actually matter?

The only things on the cells are "Japan 02E0404ARB". They were built for us for some prototypes a few years ago. The packs also say 15HR-4/3FAUP 18V JD4-054 on them.

They are 18V packs made up from 15 Cells. The cells are a strange shape, quite long and thin. Maybe 2.6 inches long each, and 0.7 inches in diameter.

Any thoughts? They are supposed to be very good cells.

Is there a way I can assume worst case and just charge them as if Nicads or Nimh and they will be fine if they aren't?

I mean is it ok to charge Nicad's like Nimh's? or to charge Nimh's like Nicads?
