Hi all I have a Raptor 620, running on 10S. I have got a scale fuselage to go on it and I need a head speen of 1600-1700 rpm. I think I have around 2200 at the moment though not real sure. I an running the 9T pinion! How do I reduce the head speen and what other effects will it have on the chopper ie. flight time ect.
Thanks

Change you pinion or go into your throttle curve and reduce it to the desired head speed.

Reducing headspeed would normally increase flight time, but since you are putting a scale fuse on it, you are adding weight, so it will probably be a zero gain situation. Changing your pinion is probably the best method of doing this. The problem is that you need to go down in tooth count to do it and you are already running a 9 Tooth. Lowering your voltage is another way, but 8S batteries aren't cheap either and I am assuming you have quite an investment into those 10S. Dropping your throttle curve is method 3, but then you are going to be running your ESC outside of its best efficiency range and that will create heat and reduce flight time. Last but not least, you can go with a lower KV motor, which is probably your cheapest option. Regardless of the method chosen, you are going to lose tail authority when you drop your headspeed. Its a common problem in scale models, so you may wind up looking into cascading tail rotors or some such depending on performance.
Out of curiosity, what body do you have? I've been eyeing up the MD530 and Ecuriel bodies that TT has out. The Funkey 222 bodies look pretty nice too.

I have just got the thunder tiger Ecureuil fuselage. I am yet to have a good look at it. I had not seen the MD500 before the other day, I don't know if it is new or I just havn't seen it.
I don't really know why they suggest such a low head speed, I may just have to try it with the head speed that I have. I will bring the throttle curve down a bit, but does that mean I will have to increase the pitch curve?

Mostly likely, especially since you'll also be adding weight. I think the lower speed is to achieve more scale flight. I don't think you'll have much of a problem if you leave it where it is now as long as you keep a close eye on heat. you may have some ground resonance issues (body shaking badly while spooling up) as well.
The MD530 has been available for quite a while now. I really like it, except for fuselage not covering the tailcase.
