View Full Version : 2100t good enough for 550?
I will be getting a 550 in a couple of weeks, and I have everything picked out except the gyro, I'm trying to make a decision between the GY401 or the 2100t. Which is better/easier to set up, is the 2100t capable of handling this size heli?
I won't be doing any 3d for a long time, and my Hurricane will be all stock, I'm still learning hovering and basic forward flight.

I am running a 2100T with a 9254 and it holds my tail rock solid. They are more tricky than the 401 to setup though. If you are not familiar with it or dont have anyone around who is it could be a little difficult, but if you watch the vids available and follow the instructions it will be fine. I also run one on my Trex 450, and so do others that I fly with and they hold really well.

I agree with zoobie except for 1 thing, I don't use the 9254 but the LTS6100G :) :)

I just ordered the 6100T/6100G combo for my bird. I was told it was a bit overkill but hey, I'll upgrade soon so why not..

There is a good review of the 2100 over at trextuning.com
It is quite a bit lighter than the 401... but it IS harder to setup.
If you are flying at a club and having guys help you tune the heli/ gyro there... most guys are already familiar with setting up the 401... it is the most commonly used gyro out there.
The 401 also seems to have a slightly better resale value in the used classifieds... which makes sense since it is more money to buy initially (but it has dropped $15-20 more used... since the new JR, Hitech, and Sparton gyros came out).

+1 2100T/6100G on mine, flies great.
It is a little more finicky than a 401, but well worth it IMO. Not to mention smaller, half the weight, and less espensive.
Thankyou bstock, I will read that review, I am flying/setting up on my own, so I need all the info I can get.
