I just learned more information about the lineup for 2008.

There will be 4 distinct models:

Hurricane 200 (Torque Tube Option)
Hurricane 425 (details forthcoming)
Hurricane 500 SFD (ships with either cf or plastic frames (revised) and ONLY 500mm blades.)
Hurricane 550 (ships with CF frames ONLY and 550mm blades. No plastic frame option.)

I also learned about the unique features to the Hurricane 500 SFD:

It comes with an FRP CANOPY
A new Hi-efficient Motor (1100KV/1500 watt)
A new main shaft (i think its hollow, 30gram reduction)
A new reduction gear which allow the new motor to function better (16%-20% more efficiency and flight time)(60T front gear)
A revised 50amp esc with heatsink (about time)
4 piece of new carbon servo adapter for smaller size digital servo (wonder where they got the idea for that one?)
4 more rubber balls for the skid. (cant go wrong with free skid nuts)

Thanks John,

So if I read that right, the current Hurricane 550 is being re-branded as a 500 and comes with a few new bits and pieces. No more 475mm blades ??.

Thanks for the info.
Mike.

Thanks John,

Super!!!
What time frame can you announce prices and availability?

the 500 is supposedly able to go form 425m to 500mm, with the 550 able to go from 425mm (with 425mm tail boom kit) to 550mm. as for pricing, i am not sure yet...we will be getting our r&d units in a week or so. ill ask GAUI if they have finalized the pricing model.

The 500 & 550 - what head do they come with (guessing plastic)? If it is plastic... will either/ both have a CNC head option - like the current XES?

the XES Pro is exclusive to Ready Heli. I am not sure if there will be a full-cnc head kit in the general public.

Will all these cool parts (drive and hollow main shaft) fit existing Hurricanes?

yah. right now you can run 60t front gear on existing hurri's and (without seeing it) I am being told the hollow shafts will fit standard hurri's that we all have today.

the cnc tail and all the other goodies are drop-ins for our kits.

The motor we should all be stoked about is the new 3026 series from Scorpion due out in another 2 weeks...there will be a 1000kv, 1210kv, 1400kv, 1600kv, 1900kv.

I think retail will be around 74.95

John,

How do you think that the 1000kv 3026 will compare with the Z20A 980kv - I was goin gto buy one of these as I believe that they are more efficient and lipo-friendly than the standard Gaui 850kv.

Thanks,
Mike.

z motors are good, not going to lie...but i have seen the scorpions in the trex 500 and am amazed at the power...i have no doubt the hk3026 cans will produce more power then the z20.

HI Jon

Its not the all out power of the Z20 that most of us are interested in its the Efficiency and the low current draw for the power they produce. It makes them gentle on the LiPo's

Do you know if the Scorpion 1000Kv motor will have similar current draw charcturistics?
I gues youo wont know until you get your hands on one.

I do like the price though

keep us posted

John,

I forgot to ask - Gaui Hurricane 500 SFD - what does SFD stand for ?.

So now it seems as if we have some good motor options - Scorpion, new Gaui or the Z0A 980kv - as with Ben I am looking for best run-time and easy on packs, so efficiency rather than power.

Thanks,
Mike

i have a scorpion HK3026-1210 and also a kit version of the HK3026 to wind myself, i think these will be great performers in the hurricane with ~500mm blades. i had originally been using the 3032 in my 515mm bladed hurricane and the power was great as was the efficiency but there were other problems specific to the 3032 that made me change it out. i'll post some info once i get the HK3026's tested :smokin:

a kit, to wind your own? that's pretty sweet. where did you get that? sounds like fun!

i got both of these HK3026's direct from georges the scorpion boss, but scorpion eventually will release all of their motors as kits, see here for those available just now >> Scorpion Kits (http://www.innov8tivedesigns.com/index.php?cPath=45&osCsid=8dffbb9c1c9382b79a35274307d4012a). guys i can't praise these motors highly enough, the best materials are used in their construction and they are well supported by the manufacturer and it's dealers, (i'm glad to see readyheli now supporting them too ) i have wound loads of motors over the years and the scorpion kits are are among the best i've tried :noteworthy

Phil,

Is that just good for ultimate power - or good for efficiency as well. I'm looking for one for my H550 (or should that be H500 pre-SFC :) ) to optimise my flight times.

Ta,
Mike.

We were one of the first dealers to carry Scorpion in the US, ;-)

John,

Will the new Hurricane 500 SFD be the same physical size as the current 550.
Also will we be able to purchase it without the motor and ESC. I would like to be able to try the new Scorpion 3026 1000KV in it .

Thanks!
Greg

Ta,

well it's both really, because improving the efficency means the motor can handle more power, and also put more power out for a given power in against a less efficient motor :)

after the performance i got from my 3032 i'd recommend getting a scorpion HK3026 for your 500mm bladed hurricane as they are good motors and i think you'll like, but as this is a smaller motor than the 3032 and i've not flown it yet i can't say how it will perform, but if you hang on till i get some flights in i'll post some inflight data and you can see for yourself :)
