O.k. I did the bearing mod and it was a huge improvement.

Now I sanded down the notches on the slider with 220 grit and then 1000 grit to get the plastic super smoth.

I then installed the tension strap and greased it with black grease (Team Associated, from my LHS) and it was really smooth but not quit right. The black grease is way slicker than lithium grease from what I tested.

Today, I settled on putting a piece of heat shrink around the tension strap and with the black grease the collective is now buttery smooth with zero notchiness, and has almost a liquid feel. The tension screws still give you the ability to tighten or loosen the feel.

Without the heat shrink I could tighten the tensions screws all the way and it was still to loose... The heat shrink did the trick!

lol... i actually just finished doing mine exactly the same way and came on here to share my results... Great timing. I used white lithium and it feels great. Might have to try the black grease to see the diffrence.

Can we get away by just adding the heatshink and grease and not have to sand the slider?

I think it must make quite a difference what kind of grease you use.

I sanded down the plastic cam profile and used cutting paste to get is perfectly smooth, and did the heatshrink as per mod, but I used standard silicon grease - must be too sticky - It doesn't slide too well. I had to loosen the tension bar quite a lot, but its still not great.

I have ordered some of the "Team Associated" black grease.

All I did was slide a piece of fuel tube over the metal part, has worked smoothly for a year,
you should of got a smooth metal and one with the high spot with the radio.
