View Full Version : Where to rout receiver antenna wire?

I have my receiver wire running to the antenna tube on the right strut housing, then i have atleast 12" of wire where it leaves the tube at the rear of the right strut.
It is too long to mount near the screw of the tail boom guide.... and it is too short to mount on the horizontal stabilizer fin guide...
for now i ran it through some fuel tubing and attached the fuel tubing to the stabilizer fin...
will that be ok?
anyone have some pictures of how they have their's mounted?

I use a rubber band and a short piece of fuel tubing to do this. Slide a small piece of fuel tubing on the end of the antenna, then run the antenna wire thru the rubberband, then the antenna wire back into the fuel tubing. Slide the fuel tubing up on to the intersection of the rubber band and antenna. This will secure the antenna endand rubber band inside the fuel tubing. Then stretch the rubber band back to your horizontal fin and you have a perfect antenna holder.
I also use a the stiff tubing (control rod tubing) to run between the fore and aft skid, then put a short piece of fuel tubing on the exit end of the control rod tubing (to keep the stiff rod from chaffing the antenna wire) and I enclose the entire antenna wire inside fuel tubing from the receiver to the fore end of the stiff control rod tube.
I will see if I can find a picture and post it, I know how hard it is to explain this, and a picture will be worth a thousand words.

Sort of hard to see, but this is the best I can do, since I am at work. I also don't have any fins on this heli, as it is the mechanics for a Scale Airwolf Bell 222 that I am building. I just had to attach the antenna to the boom, behind a tr control rod support.

Thats what Deans anntenas are for, or the Reveolution anntena. both are about 10 bucks. Saves a lot of trouble routing. Down side you have to cut your Reciever anntena. No problems though most everone uses some type of base loaded anntena to aviod this very problem.

I agree, Chris. The Revolution is a great antenna, for a base loaded antenna. I am an old ham radio op and my perspective on base loaded antennas is not that they are bad, they just are not as good as a full size antenna. I want all the RF my xmitter is putting out to reach the receiver.
Now that said..... heheheee..... I use a base loaded floppy antenna on my transmitter. heheheee Guess I have double standards !!! But I actually did that because I kept breaking the pull up aluminum antennas ! :arggg:

I like the short antenna such as the Deans based loaded antenna. It works well for most heli applications, however I tried one in a new Raptor 70 with all digital servos and a PPM RX and it did not work well at all (glitches). I went to the full length antenna and all was well. My R50 has one and I have never had a problem.

I have one little comment to add...I like the Rev. whip antenna, but this weekend I discovered that mine broke right behind where the factory soldered the RX antenna wire to the ceramic antenna amplifier. I must have been too rough putting on and taking off my canopy or vibration got to it??? Wire is more brittle after solder heat is applied to it and this is exactly where it broke...after the solder joint. Be careful if this.

I had the same problem with the same set up.

I drill some 1/16" holes in the Horizontal fin and weave teh excess wire thru it. It does keep it out of the main blades and tail blades so far..
