View Full Version : Stratus Fan to Clutch Driver Space

I installed a YS 91 in my Stratus conversion with the required washer installed under the fan. The gap between the fan hub and clutch driver is, I think, excessive. It's about twice the .032" that I set on my Fury with the MA gap setting tool that was included in that kit. Do you think I should remove the engine and add a shim under the fan to reduce the gap?

Thanks,
Bob

You do have the small CF spacer on the rear of the engine between the backplate and the larger CF plate?(in other words, two CF plates bolted directly to the backplate). Mine has a very small gap, I took my engine out of a Extreme and right into the Stratus.

I had the same problem, but the beast found what it was.
the two nipples that go into the clutch dampeners didn't go all the way down and put a lot of pressure once the top and bottom frames were joined.
an easy way to check this is to offset the top by 90° and see if the nipples go easily all the way down.
just a thought.

Did you use the stock washer that comes with the engine?

Says on page 3 of the instructions
• Fan Mount – you must have the original thrust washer from your engine installed under the lower
collet. See the Fan Hub paragraph in the Preparation section.

4.1. Fan Installation
In some cases you may have installed your fan
without using the thrust washer that came with the
engine. For proper driver spacing with this
conversion, you must use the thrust washer.
The thickness of this washer must be between .038”
and .039”
If you did not install it under the lower collet when you
originally installed the fan, remove the fan and collets.
Then add the thrust washer below the lower collet. Reinstall
the fan as you normally would. Don’t forget to
dial indicate the cooling fan to prevent excessive
engine vibration.

If you don't have the stock thrust washer installed that came with the engine. That is why the gap is not closer between the fan and clutch driver.

Thanks all for the quick replies. Dave Davison, yes the small cf spacer is installed. DavidH, the stock washer is installed. I'm betting Data's answer. I'll let you know what happened.

Thanks again,

Bob

That was it. Thanks Data. A little talc made the job easier and the pins slipped all the way in and the gap is now normal. Thanks to all.
