Hi there guys, looking to get into Hurricane 550s soon and was wondering if there might be any scale fuses for a 550/30 size heli. Not to say I'll go to scale right away, but just want to know if I'll have the option.
Thanks,
-Marty

There are some around but I don't know where you would get them. Tom Viper has a really nice Augusta and there was another example about a week ago. Just cruise around the forum also have a look in the photo's in the stickies section at the top of the forums.

How about this.
Funkey .30 Coast Guard. with retractable wheels. Just fit a Hurricane EP550. I am using 515mm blade and will put on a pair of 550mm blade soon. 7sA123 can fly for 5 mins. A bit tail heavy and I am going to put 7s2p for 10 mins flight and 15 mins. charging.

Nice one, tungym! Can I ask how hard it was to get the EP550 into that fuse? Looks great...

That's a beaut man! It does look like a tight fit. I actually found an Airwolf fuse for a .30 size heli, but man they are expensive! $369 for the kit! I think I'm sticking to stock for now.
Thanks guys!

Looks great in the air as well. Running mine on Z30, 5S 4000mA and 550 blades.

Tom, THAT is amazing... VERY nice.. Can you maybe share how you got the fuse and the EP550 together so well? Was it a tough one, or did it fit quite well? How long flights do you get?

My onlt worry is, the tail blades have no protection if your tail comes down to low. Is that not a worry/problem?

I've seen a lot of helis using a metal bar from the tailfin to protect the blades, like on the Airwolf fuse, real and R/C.

30mins job for wheel retraction. Funkey has a tailor make retraction system cost ~30 USD. All linkages included You need 2 servos to do the job. I use 2 cheap 9g servos.
30 mins job for mounting EP550:
1) take down the EP550 landind gear, remove the tail rotor hub, remove the boom support
2) put in a piece of thick foam into the fuselage, then put the EP550 into the fuselage
3) mount the 90 degree aluminium tab (given with the fuselage) to the EP550 canopy mount screw
4) dremel sand away some binding area i) tail rotor area , ii) 3 CCPM ball linkage area 5x5mm
5) You have clearance to put the battery under the front battery mount . I put the gyro on the top of the battery mount.
6) C.G. is a bit tail heavy with 7s A123 2200mAH, 7s2p is just make!
I hate the screw to secure the front half of the fuselage, I plan to put in neodym magnet such than disassemble is much easier (like Align 450 fuselage)
I maiden it last week but the condition is poor with >30km/hr gust. I also set flybar limiter (to reduce chance of flybar hitting the fuselage) that unfortunately reduce its stability.

The foam... Is that attached to the fuselage somehow, and then the mechanics of the EP550 attached to the foam? Not sure how that's working. Are you using foam, where other people might use wood?

I got the wrong version that comes with no frame support, supposed to adapt larger engine .30 heli.
You can order the Electric version which comes with a wooden mount underneath.
I use foam since that is what I got for the 30 mins job. The kit comes with a boom wooden mount that fits inside the fuselage. I even did not bother to install it. Since much of the lifting force is from the rotor to the heli frame, then through the aluminium mount and the boom to the fuselage. The battery is support by the EP550 frame rather than on the fuselage. Therefore, it is not necessary to use a wooden mount at all. Certainly, it gives extra strength.

Today, I put on a pair of 550mm/125g fiberglass blade. I cannot believe how stable it is!
However, I heard some squeak (and slight loss in power........ psychologically) and I suspect the one-way bearing start to give up. Time to upgrade to the 20T 1-way, before it cracks and destroy this lovely fuselage.
