I have been having what I thought was engine tuning issues for a while, tail kicking and it has steadily been becoming worse govenor on or off no difference. I recently noticed when spoling up my heli, it violently kicked it to the extent the blades were no longer straight it was as if she lost drive for a split second, is it possible my oneway bearing is going and is dissengaging intermittently?

bigdwalker,
If it's the Rap. 50 listed in your tag. Here are some things to check
1.) belt tension: too loose will display your problem
2.) inspect you clutch and " shoe"
3.) How old is the one-way: do you grease or oil lube the bearing?
4.) Check your tail rotor: everything: grips for bearing play, pitch link, slider and bushing,
tail pully pin. Try to eliminate any slop.
5.) Check the foam tape holding your gyro: excessive movement will cause this.
6.) Inspect your belt and pully teeth
I'm sure there may be other possible causes of your problem
But I hope this will help you on the road to solution.

Can you give a better description of "crackling issue" please?

The idler pully wore away because you have a belt alignment issue.
Here is a couple of things to check and be aware of.
1.) The stabilizer fin, bracket and boom supports must be loose when you pull on the boom to tighten your belt. If this item is not loose the boom will not slide through and it will pull your boom down when you pull on it.
2.) The tail rotor case must be in proper alignment. If it's twisted to the left or right. It will cause the belt to wear the idler flange.
3.) If there is up and down play in your main rotor shaft. Make sure to pull up on the shaft and press down on the main shaft lock ring when you tighten the set screws.
As to the" crackling" sound when you try to start your engine. You did say start and not while running. You may have worn starter shaft bearings. Another possiblilty may be your start shaft coupling. When you insert the start shaft up through the clutch bell be sure there is no up and down play in the shaft when you tighten the set screws in the coupling.
You did notice and install the thrust washer between the "E" clip and the bearing inside the clutch bell. Also if you overtightened the bolt at the bottom of your main gear assembly. You may have warped your gears and this will cause the penion to rattle as the gears turn. Loosen the bolt. There may be other things to check. But this may get you started on the road to a solution.
