You will probably have to use a smaller pinion. For what you want to do a 21 or 22T will be better. You will probably have around 2800 with 24T. Maybe 3000.

thank you both I ordered a21t today
At 100% throttle the calculations are:
21T = 2,529
22T = 2,650
23T = 2,770
24T = 2,891
You want 2600+ for fun, 2800+ for really cool performance

I'm going to be running a 20T on my A30-12XL when it gets here with my 5S 3300Mah packs, should be a real hummer ;) Going for 2600-2800 HS
:woohoo
I fear that motor is a little under done for the Lepton
A30-12XL
770Kv (RPM/V)
480w (that's quite low for what we want, we've been using 750w motors)
177g (6.3oz)
25A continuous, 37A burst (I can burst 70 to 90 amps!)
3-5 cell LiPo
Shaft 5.0mm
The 5S 100% throttle calculations are
20T = 2,576
21T = 2,705
22T = 2,834
23T = 2,963

Thats weird, the cacl I did with that motor was closer to 2800 at %100
I was using the calculator at readyheli.com
Shoot, I already ordered the motor...your saying the A30-10XL is the better choice of the hacker line for 5s?
Maybe I can change it to the 10XL before they ship it, I don't think its gone out yet...
EDIT: I remember why I setteled on the 12XL now, I read about the stretch kit in RC Heli mag and they said they droped in a 12XL and the heli "Wakes up and comes alive" so I figured that was the motor to get in this price range...and where are you pulling the wattage from, the specs I have on the A30-XL line is 600 Watts
After going back over the math it looks like I will need a 22-23t for the 12XL or a 18-19t for the 10XL...sound right?
Garry - CC gov mode is not very good
But for gov mode to do a good job you need headspace
(more power available than you need)
But the small electric classes are often tapped out on power availability
I would try 90% flat and tach the head
But you may be better off turning the gov off and running even higher
Cybinary: Yeah - the 10 is more commonly used than the 12
I can't understand why the 12 would wake up a Lepton over a 10
unless battery cell count and gearing was changed
I got the 480w off a site that sells the motor - happy to accept that it's wrong
Your last line is correct - you're on the money - start there and work on it
(Get a 21T also just in case the motor does not like pulling higher gearing)

Jafa, Not sure if your right or I am...but since the motor is already ordered I will find out ;)
I did contact my dealer and add a 21T & 22T pinion so I can get the head speed I want. Not looking for much beyond simple sport flying right now, maybe a few loops and rolls.
Here is the site I pulled the info on the hacker...

BTW: Where can I get the stats on the Kora line of motors?? The only sites that seem to carry them are ReadyHeli.com and RCHover.com, and they don't have Amp rating or other info about the watts rating and other info.

Go to the german site for kontronik and click the button for english. Dunno why their US site doesn't have up to date info.
