View Full Version : I have a squeak!

550 CF frame with CNC bits.

The squeak is evident whilst hovering close in (been running some packs in).

Seems to 'pickup' when I back off cyclic from hover or gentle lift to slow descent - i.e. it gets to be more evident but it's still there just hovering around.

It's unclear if it is the tail or something on the 'body'.. I really cannot tell and the squeak is not present when the heli is spooled up but sitting on the ground.

Anyone seen anything similar? Any thoughts? (bearings?).

I've messed with belt tension (tightened) so I do not think it's the belt in the boom....I'd hear that on the ground anyway

See if the squeak is present when the rotor blades are off. If it is gone then likely from the power chain.

Or you can try a shorter/ lighter blade.

Top suspect is the one-way bearing slips against the shaft and squeak. The one-way bearing is too weak for blade > 515mm IMO.

Hi,

Had the noise also. Mine came from the bearing in the frame. The one just above the one way bearing. It was totally worn out.

Changed all the bearings except the one in the motor mount... no difference and it was getting worse as I flew today. Then I had a really (REALLY) stupid OUCH trying to land on our heli pad... flying of medium grass (local get together in a farmers field)... hooked the LG in the grass and generally messed up so I bent it.
Why do tip overs do so much damage?

Anyway, that bearing is replaced but I have other issues now so grounded for a few days.

Thanks for the input folks, I'll let you know when I work it out.
