+1, was that anodized?

On route from Oat of Insane Canopies!
First off, I like the stock look I love it really it just fits the architecture of the canopy and bodyline. So... as you see I really just went with that, only painted no decals and some touch ins, including a slightly different design of the windscreen, windscreen remained bright metallic silver as the windscreen is what you see most on TDR in flight so that will show up very well. This is on route, pumped to see it up close as always had good sucess with Oats work in past.

He has done a fantastic job on the canopy.
Post a picture with it on the heli when it arrives please.

Very nice Shawn. I also think the stock look has a lot going for it but the blending of colors in your canopy is just incredible. I also saw that on the Insane site for $250.

I got a new canopy to help aid in orientation/visibility.
The black one is pretty hard to see when the sky is overcast! (Could be facing in any direction).
To counter that issue I got me this one. Not quite as fancy as Shawn's :)
Orientation issues solved, well and truly :)

I think everyones eyes see something different I suppose. But I found 100% that what you see the most flying a TDR is in fact the windscreen. I've seen a few TDRs in flight now different colors and the ones with "silver mettalic" for me at least are for sure the easiest to see in different light conditions. ;)

I am old, my eyes have gone down hill pretty quick in the last 2 or 3 years. I now need glasses to work on any of helis. :(
I have the silver metallic windscreen on my black canopy but found it very hard to orientate myself.
Once I get Piroflips under control I will probably take the black one out more often (it does look better). I am in the process of learning them using elevator as well as aileron (mode 1) and the red windscreen gives me a good datum point when elevator should get fed in.

mick, as said I suppose it differs for everyone. And of course every ones background sky, trees etc I suppose there is a very large difference to once I think of this. I just know here the silver windscreen surely has been the best, now that snow is coming I may need a red or black windscreen to stand out! :arggg:

Try the red windshield, it sticks out like dogs balls
09-20-2010, 03:14 AM
LOL DOGS BALLS! :clappp

I was just playing around in the Heli-X sim. They let you pick different colors for the canopy, sides, and cockpit on the TDR. For me the canopy has got to be orange. What do you think about these two combos? Visibility is much more important to me than aesthetics.

Daniel, where did you DL the TDR for pheonix? Does it fly very similar??
I have about 15 mins on sim total in my life, but this winter I plan to commit to actually using one. :D Please let me know where you DL that model, thanks!!
09-21-2010, 05:27 AM
The tdr is in the heli x sim, not pheonix. Pheonix is a much better sim.
Here is the link to heli x.
09-21-2010, 05:32 AM
ahh that sucks, yes the sim I do own is pheonix. Sorry to derail things
09-21-2010, 06:42 PM
Yup, it's Heli-X. I'm on a Mac so I don't have many choices. Overall the physics are reasonably good and at $65 for lifetime registration you can't go wrong. Still waiting on my TDR kit so I can't compare it to the real thing.

Olli Jellen flying an official 400m FAI speed measurement course with new speed FAI record for electric helicopters:
For more informations have a look there [German]: http://www.rc-network.de/forum/showthread.php?t=222696&page=2
Some information from Scorpion:

Typo? only 191kmh?? :dontknow
09-22-2010, 09:41 PM
Some info from a friend (Gotz)
The FAI Speed course is 400m long. The first 100m, the heli must be aligned and below 35m, the middle 200m are the actual measurement distance with a light drap on both ends and the last 100m are the lead in from the other side.
You have to make 2 flight thrus one from each direction and the average is the speed you achieved.
Here is the movie of the flight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2ddLL2h5WE
Headspeed approx 2300rpm / 15° pitch.

Doh! oh ok this is different, only 400m, very cool!:noteworthy
So are these guys running the 2009 head config, or 2010 design? Thats the question...
09-22-2010, 11:24 PM
The Black Scorpion-SLS-TDR uses a 2010 head...

Got the TDR canopy in from Insane, looks great on the TDR for sure, very pleased!
09-29-2010, 12:53 AM
Canopy looks REAL good
What's the matter with the trees in the background??? Did they get poisoned to go that colour???
09-29-2010, 01:01 AM
LOL It's called "SEASONS". Autumn is in at the moment, in about 2-3 weeks all those leaves will be gone. They go yellow to red, then gone, then snow comes very soon there after. The seasons can be a challenge but it is very pretty for sure. Having only 5 months of summer blows though, especially some where you may get 2.5-3.5 of that which is actually nice to fly in. :(
09-29-2010, 01:06 AM
We have seasons too.
Its just that all four seasons are warm :)
Even our deciduous trees stay green and full of leaves.
We are just recovering from our 20'C winter, should be 30'C again soon.
