Hi guys,

I´m using a YS 50 ST in my Trex 600 Nitro. And I know that the YS 50 ST is very sensitive on the main needle. So does the Carb Smart work on YS 50 ST and can the Carb Smart make more and more consitant power on a YS 50? I ask becaus I would like to have consistant power without overheating my YS 50 ST.

Thanks and best regards

I don't see why not, I have read people with the YS using Carb Smart.

You will need a good starting point ie, you will need to have your engine tuned and Carb Smart will take over, I need to get me some of these.

Heard good things about them, the weather in Georgia gets crazy hot in summer and this will be good for my engine.

It get pretty d*mned hot here in North Texas, too, although you guys have worse humidity. I typically only fly in the early to mid mornings once the heat of summer arrives.

P.S. Sorry about the threadjacking. I do intend to put a CarbSmart in my 600N, but I'm running an OS 50 Hyper.

is using two levers on their ys to alter both needles http://www.runryder.com/fastphoto/58400/DSCF1149.jpg

I'm running a CarbSmart on my YS 50ST. I found getting the engine tuned with a good reference setting for the main needle CRUCIAL before getting the CarbSmart functioning properly on my setup.

I have the Align metal fan installed, and I'm running 30% nitro (just switched to CoolPower from Powermaster). I have the Hatori SAB-50-3D (one-piece Bobby Watts special) pipe and run my head at 2000 RPM. I found that I needed to set the temp on the CarbSmart to 110C for good performance, and I'm running about 60% gain on the CarbSmart.

Hope this helps!

/sf,

What is your aprox neutral needle position? Where did you mount your sensor? What did you mount it with?

(running the same fuel & setup here)

Hi Jeff,

My neutral needle position is approx. 2 "clicks" shy of 1.5 turns. I used RTV silicone, however I have considered possibly installing with thermal epoxy (slow-cure epoxy mixed with an equal part of thermal compound). If I reinstall, I may just buy a new sensor as CSM recommends not to remove a sensor once mounted.

I have included an illustration on where I mounted the sensor...easier to show than to explain. :D

The cylinder seems to get hotter and I;m considering installing the sensor on the cylinder at the top.

I think while the temp might be higher on the cylinder wall, I believe it takes longer to change temps. That will be a disadvantage to the carbsmart. The head being aluminum should vary in temp much faster according to changing load on the engine so the carbsmart will be able to make adjustments much better.
