Having a problem with some of my deans connectors (ESC to Batteries).

Seems like it's a problem with arching. After using the connectors several times they will occasionally fail to connect. There appears to be severe arching discoloration in the connectors from the arc. I would assume this is normal, yet I loose connection after awhile and need to replace the connector.

Does anyone else ever have this problem? My soldering looks solid and they work fine for awhile. If I wiggle the connector or pull it partially out it will sometines make the connection. I certainly don't want to fly under these conditions. Having a connection fail during flight is not something i'm looking forward to.

If someone could shed a little light on what I may be doing wrong or how to solve this problem, I would appreciate it.

Also, has anyone tried the Align connectors and if so do they work well?

some times in the process of soldering if it gets to hot a little bit of plastic can melt
inside the female side and interfere with the connection
reach inside with xacto knife and clear any obstruction

Also are tehy true Deans (came in Deans package)? Or clones?

My real Deans have held up well. MANY cycles of plugging and unplugging. Clone work less well.

If you are running very high cell counts, you might want to add a anti spark conenction. Using small wire wire in a smal conenctor with a resistor in line with the red lead. Plug this small conenctor in first to charge the capacitors, then plug in the big one. No sparks.

Thanks Pinecone

I do have two different kinds of deans. One is obviously a clone. Problem is i'm not sure which one was the real deans. I did notice that one kind was failing over the other and I replaced those with the good ones. Everything working fine now. I will see how it holds up.

I'm running FP4900'S. I will have to try the anti-spark connection.

It is more a matter of pack voltage, not mAH. Higher voltage means a higher in rish current upon connection.

But that anti spark connector will work with a 1 cell pack. :)
