Since I'm putting my Gaui 200 heli together and this is my third heli build in under 2 months, I figured I'd try to document this one. Especially since I had difficulty trying to find many set up images to see how others had built their Gaui 200 heli's.

I'm also open to suggestions and constructive criticism on my decisions and choices so I can develop this build as I go along.

First off I bought all my parts from www.readyheli.com (http://www.readyheli.com) they've been fantastic and are my first choice for online heli parts.

As usual, I went overboard and ordered too much stuff, but I want to have spares so I can always be flying without having to wait for anything :YeaBaby: .

Here's what I bought.

I'm a design engineer for a living and like to see things installed neatly and packaged as well as possible.

I'm a fan of trying to make it easy to service and swap out parts. I'm a big fan of using velcro to enable this.

I looked through a lot of images (as many as I could find) and then decided to do it my way anyway. :arggg:

First off I installed velcro on the bottom floor in order to be able to easily install all my electronics.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f283/manike/gaui-velcro-install2.jpg

Then I cut out all of the letters with a sharp exacto knife. I did this so I can user the letter cut outs to help hold all the components in place with zip ties and velcro straps.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f283/manike/gaui-velcro-install4.jpg

The next thing I did was to make a foam "riser" for the ESC to mount on so I could fit it inside the frame near the motor. I used the foam from the slots in my 600N's blade holder. The rounded edge fit perfectly with the shape on the underside of the ESC. I CA'd the foam block to the ESC with gel CA, then stuck on it's velcro "toupe".

I then mounted this inside the frame, and used two zipties to hold it securely in place and make sure I had clearance from the motor and main shaft.

On the outside I made the motor connections and then zip tie'd them into place against the frame.

Next I put the 401 gyro into place. I mounted it so that I can get to all the controls and with the wires pointing to the tail. I used velcro underneath it, then a thin Align strap to gently make sure it stays in place. Don't over tighten the strap.

Next I mounted up the longer e-flite battery pack to see if it will fit under the canopy. This is the longest battery I will be using.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f283/manike/gaui-battery1.jpg

I think mounting the battery like this will help to my COG and make sure I'm not tail heavy like a lot of people seem to be initially.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f283/manike/gaui-battery2.jpg

And then put the canopy on... it's a close fit, but seems to be perfect! I did need to make sure the wires on the battery came in tight next to the battery.

Canopy completely in place to check... Yep looks great. Damn this little thing is cute!

More to follow... I'll edit it in as I go. :cheers

I love the velcro idea. I would probably shorten the "table" you made for the esc and get it several mm lower and just a touch farther from the motor. And damn thats a long battery! lol I can't believe you got the canopy on with that sticking off the font of the heli! lol All joking aside great start to what could turn out to be a great build guide.

i have heard that placing the gyro too close to the motor or esc is a bad thing. it looks very sanitary. i changed my setup several times before i was happy with it.

Yeah, I was worried about that too. Turns out it just fit . It also seems like it might help with a nice COG. Without the servo's in it almost balanced perfectly. I'm working on the servo's now, but got interrupted by having to build a cardboard sled for the "Preston and Steve radio show Cardboard Classic"...

I tried a lot of combinations when I was mocking it up. I've had issues with other heli's with interference with the gyro. With my 600N I mounted the gyro over the servos and it was a nightmare. The great thing about the velcro is I can change things around. Hopefully with this thread I can show what I tried, and if it doesn't work, I'll show what I ended up with.

I'm rather enjoying this little heli as a build, but wow, some of the screws are hard to work with. They are tiny!
