I am having trouble setting up my Futaba s9650 tail servo. Now my understanding is that I need to center the servo 90deg relative to the servo housing, and this is to be done in rate mode. I achieve rate mode by turning down the gain in the tx below 50%, but here is the problem the servo is still trying to compensation for movement, that makes it really hard to get the servo arm 90deg relative to the servo housing. Should the light on the gyro be solid when in rate mode? Mine is staying solid no matter what.
It also seems that when the gain is below 50% it limits the movement of the servo is that normal?

are u using the stock gyro
and yes it will still compensat jusr re acuate the rudd input to recenter
do your best to find center for the arm
if your suing the stock gyro put the ball a little further away from the screw
if your using the 401 or one that has a limit adj on the gyro use it to adj
use the connecting rod to adj for center on the slider on the tail
sace with equal distance between the blades and the tail case
move rudd one way to check for binding if so
using the limit adj or move ball closer to servo screw
check other posts for more detailed info

Hello,
Yes I am using the stock Gyro. After reading some of the post, I was under the assumption that while in rate mode the servo would not be receiving any inputs from the gyro for heading corrections. So you are saying that while in rate mode any input from the rudder channel will recenter the servo?

The difference is that in rate mode, the gyro input is temporary. So if you jerk the nose left or right by 45%, the gyro will jerk the tail right or left but then will center with no jerking.
With hh mode, jerking will cause the gyro to move, but it will continue to move and not go back to center unless you rotate the heli back to the original heading.
