Yeah, but you know what happens, you build a 30 and someone shoves in a 50. We're just saving them the time. Plus we wanted it to be both liquid and electron power-able. Who actually flies 30's anymore? I guess I do see them now and again, there are certainly plenty on the hobby shop shelves...seems to me though that you rarely see them at the fields.

Besides, who says you could'nt put two 3S3P or similar packs and a pair of 550's on the thing? Not Ion-X packs, but certainly lower cost alternatives.

Oh yeah, we are going to be working on the Ion-X to bring it up to todays needs.

The 30 is a waste of time. I never see 30's anymore. The 50 market is the dominant entry level market anyway.

Can it use standard size servos?

Oh yeah, we are going to be working on the Ion-X to bring it up to todays needs.

What needs? :D

Slap that Stratus flybar carrier on there or the Tempest head if you really want FAI and go for it. :D

Belt tail will be a welcome addition though. :D

As for the standard servos heck I wish I could run the 9650's on the 90. :D
Not quite enough oomph for me, but I ran them in a Logo 10 and they are every bit as good as a 9252 in the 50 and smaller airframes.

I for one am glad the frames of the proto are setup for them.
I am betting though that in the end it will be able to accept standard servos.
Not everyone is going to want to shell out the $$$ for the 9650's not to mention trying to get them.

The proto could actually use either size servo in all four positions. I think Tim is planning on carrying this through to the end as the 9650's are such a good servo and what the heck, you can drop a quick 3 ounces by using them. Time will tell...

The Ion-X needs to be a bit more flexible for the current crop of motors that are appearing. The power levels are on the rise and it's drive train needs beefing up.

I agree, put a Tempest head on the thing, a decent setup with the latest radio gear and the machine is not too far off the mark for contest work...but then, that head can make a turd fly well.

Good one Chris,

I'm going to get me one of those 'turd flying' head's for my Ion-x!

Cheers,

Min- Air will sell MANY of these things.
My E-raven conversion flew Very well at 6S3P, that will outrun a 50 size nitro on this Heli.
What more do you really need?

Not sure how the nitro version will sell, as the price may be a bit high.
But they should keep the belt drive on the 50 in my opinion....good marketing and good mechanics...just need this little "hook" to get the public to bite.
But you get what you pay for in this hobby.
Heck I have a $3000+ Vario Gasser.... Never thought I would be here! But it's a smooth SOB!
Chris has done great work with this heli, I hope his idea's are brought to production
Oh I see a Turbine I like now.....Just a few more credit cards!!!
Good work Chris , as always!

Thanks Tom

Understand though that my involvement in the final product has been very minimal. What Tim has now and what I had are two very different things. I will get my hands in there again to tweek the electric side of the machine but all the final mechanics are Tim's.

An Ion 50 size heli is a very good idea, agree that a 30 heli is just waste of time and money. No reason to start out with anything smaller than a 50 size heli.

A 50 size heli can be powered from a battery half the size needed for an Ion-X, especially if it will be a light 50 heli like the X-Cell one seems to be.

Look very much forward to see what will be the next upgrades available for en Ion-X.....Keep up the good work Chriss.

There's a roumor saying "MA is going to be introducing a new low cost 50 size electric at the event here in Birmingham this weekend." is this true? I didn't think the 50e was ready yet?

Chris?

Yes, this is true. Tim has been busting his hump the last two weeks to get a proto built to take to B-Ham. It is a liquid powered version, no electric yet, but soon.

LIQUID?! :bomb: wont buy it, and still waiting for the e-version. I'll buy the heli that's released first of the T-rex 600 and the 50e. Will you get it ready quicker now? :D

I want it, and I want it NOW, should have had it yesterday if it was up to me. ;) What I'm trying to say is: keep up the good work and bring us a good e-heli soon

WHAT???

Doubting between align and MA?

That'll be decided within .00002 secs for me.... no more align for me.

I don't want to make this a Align vs. MA...

That said, the Trex 450 SE is a great machine IMHO. I think the head is one of the cleanest and best functioning version out there, and at a great price too.

MA do have a bit more experience with helis than Align, and they're in a different class maybe. But when I'm looking for a new e-heli 50 size, it stands between MA and Align.

just my 2 cents, don't kill me

Well Align learned or should I say copied from one of the best. :D

The T-rex is a scaled down version of the Thunder Tiger Raptor.

Minature Aircraft was making helicopters when the guys at Thunder Tiger and Align were still chasing girls in College. :D :D :D

Well Northwood, my reason not to buy another align the the versions they have...

First the V1, then V2, then HDE/CDE, and now the SE. I know MA wouldn't make a V2 because their V1 is good, testflown and they use the best materials etc.

The new 50/91/Electric machine is very interesting to say the least, looked like a LOT less parts than the current designs.
