the manual completely left this out for the beginners.
and my 401 gyro is in the 'rudder' with the yellow wire in 'gear', correct??

one of the front servo's goes in aileron, the other front goes in aux 1 this is known as pitch, and the back servo goes in ele.
your gyro is correct
assuming this is on a trex 450

You can plug the gain wire into GEAR or AUX2. Be aware that on the DX7, you can use the GYRO SENS menu with either. On the X9303 (and I'm pretty sure the XP9303 too) you can't use the GYRO SENS menu with the GEAR channel, you have to use endpoints to set gain or plug the gain into AUX2. So, 6ch Rxs, you're stuck with endpoints and the gear channel.
