Saw this on one of the other forums. I went to this event back in the mid 90's. This is the event that became the Phoenix funfly. Then last year Torkroll and couple of others ressurected the event. It is a great area to visit and the flying site is great. Exchanged some emails with the organizers last year after the event. For an event to start again after 12 years they had a great turnout and good event

The Bakersfield fun fly 2008 will again be memorial day weekend, May 23rd(fri), 24th(sat), 25th(sun), and 26th(mon).

Sat and sun of course are the big days with sat night being reserved for a great night fly again.

RV's are allowed again, and allowed to show up on friday, and BBQ's, etc. The whole soccer park has been given to us this 3 day weekend, so thats when we are having it again.

Finless,

Make sure you bring that Logo 500 you said you loved to fly so much :).

My son (Kyle, age 14) and I are members of the Bakersfield club, and we'll have our Logo 600 V-Bar out there. We'll probably be the only two with a Logo on the field :cheers. Hope to see ya there!

Take care, Dave Dahl.

Some new info about the Fun-Fly. The event organizer (Chuck) told me tonight that Alan Szabo had committed to be at the Fun-Fly. Alan always draws a fun crowd, and he and his friends last year were great to have at the event. A few more commitments from sponsors and vendors are starting to trickle in, so things are shaping up to be another great time.

Be sure and visit the link to the host club's web site at www.krbr2000.com (the Kern Rivers Blade Runners), for maps, motel and event info, and photos of last year and the flying site.

See ya all there. Dave Dahl.

Finless,

Visalia is about one hour and 15 min from Bakersfield central, about 1 1/2 hrs. from the heli flying site. You have to go east from Visalia of course to get to the mountains and the National Parks, so that will add some time.

Glad you are planning on coming! We're all really looking forward to it. See ya there.

Take care, Dave Dahl.

Although it has been hot in Bakersfield the past few days, the forecast is for the temps to drop back into the 80's Thursday and Friday, and into the 70's Saturday and Sunday. Lookin' good!!

Well, last year was our first year back doing the event after a ten year break. We hoped to get 30-50, and had about 45 registered. This year, we're hoping it will grow at least a little from last year. Lets throw out a 50-60 figure and see what happens? Not the biggest, but lots of good pilots and you can't beat the site.

See ya there. Dave Dahl.

So all can make plans, the catering truck and the BBQ planned for the event has vanished. The CD is trying to make new arrangements, but at this late notice and on a holiday weekend when everyone else is having events and BBQ's ...we'll see??

Like the Marines say, "Adapt and overcome". There is a store down the road a few miles. With such a big all grass flying site and no lines at flight stations or waiting to fly, there will be time left over to make a few food/drink runs to the market.

"Looks like we've had our glitch for this mission". Dave Dahl.

Isnt there a snack bar on site or no? O well about the food, i am sure this is a heli fly not a eating event, eat less fly more. Is there going to be a radio impound? I am running 2.4, but my friend is still running the flag pole thing:). And last weekend at fremont he got locked out flying his stratus.. So dont wont to repeat that.

No impound for 2.4.

72 mhz freqs that conflict will be impounded. Last year we had just a few 72 mhz radios impounded, and I don't think any conflicted. So this year, if you're the only Channel 50 on site, then you can keep the TX. If someone comes in and registers on Channel 50, we'll call you in and impound both TX's.

wish I could have made it this year. But the move and new job kept me out of the mix this time.

Just got back from this event. Had a great time despite the rain on friday and the on and off misting on sunday. Got see the trex700 in action, just amazing will be buying one for sure. I like to say that Ray Nemovi put on a great show with it and was very helpful in answering question about it, hope to fly with him again. Jason bell just killed the place with the aurora. I think the ground was shaking from the low pops:noteworthy. Thank to finless bob for recording one of my flights that made my day. Kevin fireup 500 is just a work of art, great job on that. All in all well worth the drive, and the camping. Will be there next year for sure. I dont want to forget Kyle, Him and his logo just amazing great job:noteworthy.
