Is the BEC in the Jazz 80 enough to use in combonation with 3x JR8717 and 8900G on the tail? This is on a Logo500 with AR7000 rx, Spartan gyro, FP5000 batts, with 550mm blades. Basically is the built in BEC stout enough or should I just purchase a WR 5A BEC?
Thanks

That might be pushing it with the 8717s since they have a higher current draw than most servos. The BEC on the Jazz 80 is rated at 4A and its possible its higher since Kontronic seem to underrate their capabilities. It might be better to use the WR 5A.

As Bruce says, it is safer to buy a Western Robotics 5A BEC if you are running the 8717s. Or you could just get a 2S LiPo for insane speed on the 8717s (0,45, torque at 180).

I figured this would be the answer but i've heard the Kontronic stuff is underrated. It's always been my plan to get the WR but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. As far as 2S lipo, i'd rather not deal with a seperate lipo right now as I don't need the extra speed at this point. The Logo500 should be fast enough for me right now. I know right now the 8717 are a bit overkill right now but the plan is to eventually put a V-bar on it and keep the option open to go 600 in the future.

You can always give it a try on the bench. Just power up the electronics and start stirring the cyclic for about a minute while pushing down on the swash and then throw in some fast pitch pumping and see what happens... can't hurt to try. Also, measure the temperature afterwards. Not sure what happens when the ESC is also running the motor though.

If you are going to use 8717s use a 2S 1320mah FP rx lipo and a Spektrum dual voltage regulator, you will safely get 5 flights from that pack and have super fast cyclics.
