Winner, winner chicken dinner?

Is "puffing" a generic term for destroying a lipo? I did a search for puffing and my eyes are now bleeding. Is a puffed lipo physically bigger and no longer safe to charge or would it hold a charge but have a chance of combusting? I purchased a couple kong anti puffing lipo's. They are so big compared to the other batteries, they seem pre "puffed". Since im currently hovering a trex450: i see evo 2500mah as the lipo of choice. Is that the evo lite or the 25c or 30c? If i missed the sticky answer to "puffing" im sorry. Thought it might be safe to post under newbie section since im new:arggg:

Puffing refers to a Lipo cell expanding as a result of hot gases building up inside as a pre-cursor to the Lipo (possibly) catching fire or bursting open. Look on Youtube for the various Lipo fire videos and you can see the puffing right before they catch fire.

The Kong batteries are bigger due to their packaging and the spacers between the cells. They are not "pre-puffed". The cells themselfs are flat like all lipos.

To add to what int2str said, a puffed lipo will typically not have a firm feel to it. It will "squish" when gently squeezed.

+1

Also, when placed next to a new identical battery it sometimes can just look like it's just a tad bigger. I haven't seen one balloon yet. :) I personally, find it hard to really see unless a puffed pack is placed next to a brand new pack.
