i feel that other/or the few are still unsure if they have the right settings for them.
so to help others, post your TX and blade settings IE. Pitch curve, THROT curve, in both modes, and D/R and expo or anyother. aslo give a brife reason why u chose those settings. someone else may find your settings may help them get down the road or help build thier abiitys.

my settings blades +10/-10
idle
Pcurve 40-45-50-75-100
Tcurve 0-25-50-75-100
Semi stable in hover have watch how u move thrt stick IE when decending u have apply more at first to slow down then to level out for Alt desired (due to head speed changing)
iguess what they call bobbing
stunt
Pcurve 0-25-50-75-100
Tcurve 100-95-90-95-100
very stable in a hover constant head speed helps from bobbing because all inputs are mostly blades not blades and headspeed.
i Trained with +10 in Aile and Elev and -5 in Rudd helped me learn not to over control
i now use 0 expo in the Cyclic and -5 in Rudd i find 1:1 in cyclic controls while hovering and Fast foward flight was a must for me love the responsiveness
most of my learning to hover was from the Blade CP i guess the reason for 1:1
i hope this helps someone find thier seetings so they will spend less time fustrated and more time flyin:Bang

do you run in to motor bogging
wondering what im going to see when i get up thier and what i have to set for

IMO, the stock throttle curve is way low and being at altitude I was easily convinced that the Finless Bob's curves would be better.
The heli lifts, no problems, at just below 3/4 stick.
I only hover around because I'm restricted to a 20' x 30' indoor area. So I can't really comment on how the B400 actually flys at this altitude.
The only effect on the motor is that it has to spin faster to get the same lift. That shouldn't be a problem because brushless like to run at 80-100% power anyway. They might get hotter due to decreased heat dissipation at altitude.
If you try full power 3D flying here I'm sure you'll notice a decrease in zip.

Going from first screen in adjust menu's
D/R Expo
AILE 0 100% INH
ELEV 0 100% INH
RUDD 0 100% 5%
Travel Adjust is 100% for all channels
Sub Trim won't mean much to anyone other than me and my servo's
Gyro (I need lower gain in Idle up due to higher head speed and to keep it simple I tied the Flight mode switch to the gyro gain select menu)
RATE SW-F.MODE
0: 63.5% NORM 0
1: 62% STUNT 1
Throttle Curve
Norm 0 33 44.5 57 90
Stunt 100 95 88 95 100
HOLD 10% (matches 0 throttle setting so I can initialize in throttle hold!)
Pitch Curve (setup for gentle Normal flight mode + No dancing when switching between Norm -> Idle up. Well, tail dances a bit as gyro fights back the sudden torque input)
Norm 35 50 58.5 85.5 100 (3/4 stick = hover + slow head speed)
Stunt 0 25 50 75 100 (3/4 Stick = hover + high head speed)
Hold 0 25 50 75 100 (Matches Stunt for Auto's, but haven't had intestinal fortitude to try any yet)
Swash Mix (nobody has posted this yet, and it is important! of course might be differences between servos)
AILE -85%
ELEV -80%
PITCH +80%
Fun trick to explore swash values. Remove Main blades, secure heli to table, set throttle hold throttle curve to 15%. Initialize heli with throttle hold OFF, Turn throttle hold ON to get head to spin just fast enough for flybar to level out. Now run pitch and collective thru all travel combinations and look for binding. It will be easy to see / here when it happens!
Mix and Revo menus are all INH or 0

good call forgot about swash mix ive done that same test and found that the blades Aile and Elev limits were the fact it binds against the blade grip
i Have ds285
swash mix
aile -66
elev -66
pitch +79
also channel reverse
all N
but ELEV and Pitch
gyro gain (gy401/3400G)
68 in both modes

I'm about to raise the D/R by 10% and lower the Expo a little.
I know expo makes it more sluggish (less responsive) but what does the d/r settings change? First I've heard of anyone changing them.
sokal
02-27-2008, 06:06 PM
the D/R affects maximun control authority and over all sensitivity
and expo is the sensitivity around center
LockMD
02-27-2008, 06:13 PM
so lowering it to 80% makes it less responsive or more? guessing less...
sokal
02-27-2008, 06:22 PM
makes all of the stick trow less sensitive
as expo ony does the center
sokal
02-27-2008, 06:26 PM
if doing more than light flight/hover
i dont recommend lowering
it will also change the rate of travel
not sure if it changes the amount as well

I'm too use to it being more sensitive, I wont be lowering it. If I make it too sluggish I tend to over correct and crash

This is my FIRST real radio, I am reading the book on it. I am worried about messing up the settings and making it unflyable. Is there a chance of that. There is a whole lot af difference between the radios that came with the CPPro and this radio. I was amased. I am at stock settings now. Also is there a patch cord that will allow you to use it with the Real flite sim? I read in a thread that someone was hooking the TX up to their computer where did you get the cord?

not a worry just copy your settings and rebind to the other as well that way u will not lose the stock
or thiers enough of us that will give you the stock setting also its posted like 100+ times
so no worries

This is how I got mine.... Is this right???
D/R 100% all
Travel and all 100% but rud 90%
sub trim 0 all
Gyro 50% Rate 0 and 1
thro norm 0 25 50 75 100
pitch 0 25 50 75 100
swash mix Inhibit
mix1 INH
mix2 INH
revo mix 0% all
So what do I change I don't think this is right?
sokal
02-28-2008, 05:54 AM
wow
gyro gain start about 66 if the tail wags go down 1% at a time til it stops
most of all u need swash mix
the book states
-75 aile
-75 elev
+85 pitch
now subtrim is used to put servo arms level or what they call 90 deg out
all mesurements are taken at mid stick for cyclic servo adj

Under the setup menu there is the option to COPY your existing setup to a new model memory number. If you haven't messed with anything in the radio yet, just copy the existing settings to a seperate model memory number, rename it to B400-BU (Blade 400 Back UP) and then play with settings till content!

D/R (dual rates) means that when d/r is enabled and set to say 80%, then your maximum servo travel will only be 80%. BEWARE: if you set D/R to low then you will not be able to flex your control surfaces enough to get out of a dive or other bad attitude.
Many years ago, there was no such thing as expo, and you only had D/R or a split D/R. But I got caught once in a bad attitude and couldn't get out with my D/R settings. Nose dive from about 300ft. A low D/R will also only cause you problems in strong wind.
Since taking up r/c again, I've vowed to never use D/R again. At least not on pitch & role. With HH gyros, D/R on the tail will slow down your piro rates which is ok.

just lengthen the front link (ELEV) half turn at a time if its because the swash is not level
if it seems level to you then use the trim switches
all is set at half stick

Just to clarify on the expo, adding it, or making the value positive (+), will decrease sensitivity around center stick?
Thanks.
sokal
02-28-2008, 11:33 PM
yes doing so (+) will desensitize the center its really the bigger u make the # the bigger the sensitive range around center
(theroy not actual)
think of it a a scale from 100-0-100 0 being the center
it its +10 the 10% of that range will have a 2:1 ratio until you move past that 10% then its 1:1
