I am not sure if I have my tail & gyro set up exacally right. First time with a DX-7, 401, 9254 set up.
Tail holds fairly well but not perfectly. I set up nuetral on the servo and put the gyro on the Aux2 switch.
My Gyro sensativity screen looks like this,
> Auto __________ F.Mode
_______________ Norm: 0
Rate: ____________Stnt: 1
0: 84%___________ Hold: 1
1: 82%
Is that about right ? Seems a bit high to me.
Also how do I switch from AVCS to norm mode, when I move the Aux2 switch up & down it seems to make no difference. The red LED is always on steady which indicates AVCS mode. The manual says that when you switch to norm mode the LED will go off. What am I missing ?
Thanks for your help..... Dave

With that screen, it looks like your gyro settings will be changed by the flight mode switch Normal-stunt1-stunt2.
F.Mode means flight mode. IMO nothing happens, when you switch the aux2!
As I am in the office right now, I don't have the possibility to check that with the manual, but I'm quit sure.

Yes I think that is true , but no matter what flight mode i put it in it is still indicating AVCS mode, with the red LED lit solid.
I only want to set it to normal so that I can go thru the set up properly ( on the 201 I had on my T-rex450, their was a switch on the gyro itself to turn AVCS on & off )

That is because you have the rate on both set above 50%....set #1 to below 50% and the light will go out when you switch form norm to idle 1 or 2.
I run my 401 with the DX7 on norm 0 at 68% and only have idle up 2 and Thot hold set for 25%..
just get it below 50% and it goes into rate mode.

You should switch off the F mode function and then the Aux 2 switch will work. The Gyro settings in Gyro menu should be approx: 80% and 20% to get tell the gyro to be in either HH(AVCS) or rate mode. Try Finless tech room for video howto.

Hi there,
I don't post much (read and learn mostly), but I may know the answer to your problem. I use a DX7 but not with the Gyro sense - I use Gear. Anyway, My understanding is Rate mode (swith location 1) is 50% and under and HH mode switch location 0) is above 50%. Your post above has both modes (0 & 1) in the 80+% range. I think if you adjust the Rate mode to around 35% and HH mode to around 72% you will find Rate mode to work properly. These are starting points, so you'll have the adjust for your heli and flying style (I'm a noob).
Hope this helps.

But if I lower the sens.to less then 50% on one of the modes wont that take me out of head holding mode when I am flighing in that mode ?

You asked the question of how to switch norm mode...I assume you mean the gyro...
you have to have one of the settings below 50%...anything above 50% is in HH..
if you leave everything above 50% like you have it now....you will never have the red light go out....
So what are you really trying to do? because I think your origianl question has been answered, several times.
You really need to watch Bob's videos and all you questions will be answered.

Thanks mjdee14, and of corse I have watched Bob's 401 set up video several times, however he is using a different radio with different screens that dont correspond with my DX7 screens. I do understand however that to get to rate mode all I have to do is drop the % value below 50% O.K. now I just need to know how to set the two rate values for the Rate: 0 and Rate: 1
Sorry if I seem to not understand it correctly, but that is why I have asked.
Thank's all

In my DX7 manual it's on page 91....I tried to cut and paste but it wouldn't let me.
I keep mine on 68% rate 0 and 28% on rate 1..
you do that by using the select button and setting each rate...then I set my normal, idle1 and idle2 on 0 and throttle hold on 1.
I also just change the norm to 1 whenever I want to do a hover check of the gyro.
For all this to work you ahev to select gryo on the screen or else it may be assigned to one of the other switches...
the easiest way is to have it assigned to the Flight mode switch for "auto sensing"...
See if that helps any.

Thank's again Mike, I had already re-read pg. 91 that you referenced, eairlier today, and talked to a tech rep from Horrizon also. I really appreciate you listing the values that you have from your set up, since it is the same as mine it gives me a clearer picthure of what I need. I think it is starting to click, FINALLY !!
The tail has been flying O.K.the way it is, but I wanted to understand just how this worked, so I could set it up perfectly. Thanks again for your help, and everyone else's also.
Later..... Dave.

I think also the Aux 2 switch is an assignment rather than an actual switch for the modes. Mine is set to Gear and nothing happens when the gear switch is selected but to change modes I have to select either 0 or 1 (in the gyro screen) depending on which mode I want to use before powering up the heli.
There is a video on DX7 programming which helps I think: http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=28681

Your right bearwood, it is the same for Aux2, just an assighnment. I did not understand that at first.
I am seeing the light now, on how this works.
P.S. Hey, how is the fishing down their ? I have always wanted to make the trip "down-under" to try it.
Later,...... Dave
